    1. [NSW-C] Newspapers around Young
    2. alwynne mackie
    3. Can anyone please tell me what newspapers there were in the Young/Forbes area around 1858-60? I am looking for newspaper reports of a photographer called George Burnell from Adelaide, who travelled around the area taking portrait photographs. Apparently he created a lot of interest, and there were frequently articles in newspapers about him. Any help would be much appreciated. With thanks, Alwynne

    1. [NSW-C] DREW Family - Mudgee, Wellington, Gulgong, Gilgandra, etc.
    2. Brian Donnolley
    3. The progenitor of the DREW family in Australia was George DREW who arrived in Sydney as a convict on 1 Jan 1835 per Henry Porcher. He was a native of London, born abt 1816 and a shoemaker when he was convicted. After arrival, he married Mary CUMMINS on 2 Aug 1842 and together they produced 10 children, seven of whom survived into adulthood. Initially the family settled in Sydney and then about 1845 they moved to Penrith. In 1872, Grevilles Post Office directory shows George Drew as a bootmaker in Ilford; and his son George as an ostler in Cunningham's Creek. George's children married and started their own families in the Mudgee, Wellington, Gilgandra area. The names of the children and their spouses (where known) are as follows: Thomas Daswell DREW married Sarah Ann SHANKLIN in 1867 and settled in Gilgandra James DREW married Ellen O'MARA in 1871 and settled in the Rylstone, Hartley & Mudgee Jemima DREW married Henry CAFÉ in 1867 and settled in the Rylstone/Gulgong area John DREW married Annie ASHCROFT in 1873 and settled in Rylstone, Tuena & Mudgee George Henry DREW married Bridget KEARIN in 1869 and settled in the Wellington area Mary DREW Annie DREW Other families that married George's grandchildren include James McLEOD (married Mary Jane in 1892 at Glen Innes); Francis Henry DONNOLLEY (who married Annie in 1908 at Rylstone); Mary J. NORTHCOTE (who married Thomas H in 1902 in Sydney); and Richard W. FIRTH (who married Ellen in 1920 at Hamilton). I would very much like to hear from anyone researching the DREW, SHANKLIN, CAFÉ, ASHCROFT, KEARIN, McLEOD, NORTHCOTE or FIRTH families. Any information regarding the activities of the DREW family would be welcome. Brian Donnolley (near Seattle USA)

    3. Robyn As a former resident of Cootamundra, I can't offer too much. Except to say that Cucumbla Station is probably Cowcumbla Station which was one of the original stations in the district. There is a Cowcumbla St in the town itself, which is probably all that is left of the station. So have another go with the spelling and you might come up with something. 1. [NSW-C] CROOME Family, Clarendon, Wallerawang area's circa 1850's

    3. Hello List Looking for some information on the towns of Clarendon and Wallerawang. My ggg grandfather George CROOME arrived in Australia in 1850, married Elizabeth Yard 1850 in Sydney. Their first son William was born Windsor 1851. Then George died at Clarendon, in the Parish of Richmond in 1856 at the age of 35 yrs. I have ordered the death certificate hoping that it will give me the cause of death, I'm still waiting for that to arrive. His wife Elizabeth married 2 years later to a James SMITH whom sailed with them both on the "Cornwall". They must of stayed put in the area for a time as the first son William married a Sarah Ann Doble/Dobbie in Wallerawang in 1877. Have not found any other info on the SMITHS as yet. Elizabeth and George had two other children, Eliza Rebecca, born 1855 died 1857 and Sarah A born 1853, married John Eaton 1872 in Penrith, died 1893, Penrith. Would love to hear from anyone who has any knowledge about the areas or people mentioned. Wondering if there is a cemetery at Clarendon and if George is buried there? Kind Regards Tracy G Sunshine Coast Queensland

    1. [NSW-C] BYASS Cootamundra
    2. I wonder if anyne has any knowledge of Henry BYASS who was apparently in Cootamundra in 1890? He is the most elusive member of my mother's family and I've just found good evidence that he was there at that time, but I have no idea in what capacity or for how long. He would have been about 63 years old, and had been in Victoria during the late 1840s and early 1850s. Cootmundra is way ouside my area of knowledge, so any tips for where else I might look would be very gratefully received. Regards to all, Robyn Melbourne
