Alwynne and Marie, Thank you both for your messages. I did try to write direct to you Alwynne but the Email came back for some reason. I will try to remember to delete the earlier messages. My only aim was to help Alwynne as I found my own records the hard way, by my own experience. I have spent the last eighteen years helping other people mostly my own relatives with their other families. I know how hard it is to find information and sometimes I feel I am up against a brick wall. I must say though that I thought these pages were to help other people with information, I must be wrong. Many thanks again. Judith Long
And I have found it very helpful. It's just faintly possible that I might find a message by Brian boring, too, but that wouldn't prompt me to ask that it be sent to Coventry. Thank you, Marie. Cheers (and thanks), as ever. Okey Dokey Everyone, I think we will leave this particular thread alone from hereon in. :) Just a reminder for those new to this list - I am generally happy to let threads run, as long as they are positive and helpful. Oddly enough though, the thing that really gets on my goat is when the same message is sent back time and time again, without the excess stuff being pruned off at the bottom. That makes life really hard for people on the Digest form of this list. Just taking the minute to scroll down and delete it makes life easier for them, and keeps my blood pressure reasonable. :) If anyone ever wishes to take issue with how this list operates, the polite thing is to do it with the list-admin, offlist. If you do not know how to find the admin, you can always use the formula below. It works for all lists [names of list]-admin@rootsweb.com ie in this case AUS-NSW-CENTRAL-admin@rootsweb.com Cheers Linda List-admin AUS-NSW-CENTRAL
Has it occurred to you Brian that others have found it interesting? I have not entered into the conversation until now but I have found it interesting as I too have people who lived in the district. Marie
May I suggest that those of you who wish to correspond regarding the difficulty of gaining access to the newspapers around Young do so OFF-LIST. This has been a boring thread. Brian
Hi, Judith. I found the website for the Young Witness and sent an email. Unfortunately it was returned, address unknown. I shall ring them to get the right one. Otherwise next stop - the library. Many thanks, Linda. That's most helpful. I went to the Young Witness website and emailed them, but the message bounced back address unknown. I'm surprised that they have an incorrect address on their website, but maybe they just haven't updated. I guess the next step is to call them and ask for the correct address. cheers, Alwynne ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Barraclough" <kapana@netspace.net.au> To: <AUS-NSW-CENTRAL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 06, 2003 9:57 PM Subject: Re: [NSW-C] Newspapers around Young > Just for reference, from the Union List of Newspapers in Australian > Libraries (1975 edn) the newspapers at Young were: > > Burrangong Argus 1864-1913 > > Burrangong Courier and Lambing Flat General Advertiser May-Nov 1862 > > Miner and General Advertiser 1861-1862 > > South West News Pictorial 1864 + (Took over Burranong Argus and Young > Chronicle) (also under other names such as Young Witness) > > Young Chronicle 1874-1947 > > > > Cheers > > Linda > > >

Many thanks, Judith. The State Library is out, as the only way of getting there is by tram - which I can't manage, but the interlibrary loan idea is a real possibility. I shall try that. Dear Alywynne, Do you have any way to get to the State Library in Melbourne ??? they would have copies of any newspapers on Micro-film. If not could you get to a local Library ?? there is a interlibrary exchange service where we can borrow items from other libraries. Worth looking into. Good luck. Dear Alwynne, I have read your inquiry about the newspapers around Young. A lot of newspapers are held at the State Library in Sydney, there are very easy to access and to use, most are on micro-film. I don't know if you can get to Sydney, but if you can they are a very good source of infromation. Good luck Judith Long. ----- Original Message ----- From: "alwynne mackie" <alwynnem@melbpc.org.au> To: <AUS-NSW-CENTRAL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 02, 2003 2:42 PM Subject: Re: [NSW-C] Newspapers around Young > Many thanks, Wendy. > Does it still exist - perhaps under another name?
