    1. [NSW-C] re Ganmain
    2. Janet Stevenson
    3. Could any lister please advise whether there is a family history group for Ganmain or whether the town comes under the umbrella of another town such as Temora, Narrandera etc. We are trying to locate the whereabouts of a Robert Clark who may or may not have come to Australia and settled first in the northern section of Victoria before moving into the Wagga Wagga area. There were four brothers and we have been able to trace three of them, but no sign of Robert Clark. This of course could mean that he remained in Ayrshire around Ochiltree or Kilmarnock. I am researching from Sydney and would be pleased if someone could point me in the right direction to get some information about Ganmain as we have a very slight lead that he may have been there at one time. Another brother was certainly in Coolamon. TIA Janet

    3. Dear All Linda I'm almost tempted to put something on that thread just to get the photograph! Thanks for the various replies re my recalcitrant John Kelly. Oh for a less common name. I will also try and eliminate those who are unlikely. The other interesting clue is he named his last child Sydney Hercules, the Hercules being a convict ship that did come to Sydney, but I know one can't work that way. 2. Rae Luckie
    3. Hello I was born in Orange, my husband in Dubbo, and we've lived in Parkes and Mudgee, so I guess that makes us central westies. Went back to an Orange High Reunion in April. Mysteriously about 8 women from the same class have ended up living between Wollongong and Nowra. I've been researching the goldfields areas around the 1860s, came across a wonderfully well researched book called The Glint of Gold, by Keren Cook including 1000 photos of then and now. At the moment trying to find more about a particular John Kelly my ggrandfather. The problem with my John Kelly is John's 1867 marriage certificate to Rachel Jacobs at Forbes shows his birthplace, age, father's name, mother's name and maiden surname and fathers occupation as 'not given'. By 1871, John changed his name to John Edwin Kelly when he registered his children's births, but he was buried as John Edward Kelly. After checking the birth certificates of his children to work out his DOB there appears to be no John Kelly born that year...ho hum the search continues. He was a stockman on Coobang Station and had stores in Warren and Mt Harris and hotels in Nevertire, Nyngan Parkes and Georges Plains, so I'm anticipating a trip to the archives at Penrith. My grandmothers side no problems, she is a Field descendent, so they are well researched on the web via Colin Field's amazing project 'From a Distant Field'. The Luckies (originally from Mendooran) also fairly well researched. I'm a bookaholic and building a collection of second hand 'historical' books. The other side of my family were Levingstones from German's Hill near Orange, through to Chandlers who owned the newsagency opposite the railway station there. Again trying to find out more about the history of the redcoats (HM 2nd Regiment of Foot) what they did around1859. Cheers Rae -- Everybody has a story-isn't it time you wrote yours?
