Hi All, I have hit a BIG Brick Wall regarding my Great Grandfather on my Mothers Fathers side, I have been trying to find information to help me but still can't find any to help and I have been trying for years now . I have been unable to find when he came to Australia and were he died. The only real information I have is that he married my Great Grandmother. I have a copy of the Certificate but even that doesn't help because it doesn't have Place of Birth or Age or Parents names. And the Church that it has they were married at was never in Parkes. These are the details Date: 2 June 1892 Place of Marriage: Parkes, Names of Parties: James Rieley (should read Riley) Ellen Byrnes, Conjugal State: Bachelor Spinster, Birthplace: Not Given Usual Occupation: Labourer Living with Parents, Age: Not Given Usual Place of Residence: Flagstone (Now named Cookamidgera) NSW Fathers and Mothers Names: Not Given Married in the Vestry of St Columba's Church, According to Rites & Ceremonies of the Church of Rome Minister M Campion. Have been in touch with both Archives of Bathurst and Wilcannia - Forbes Diocese for the Catholic Church and have been told that there never was a Church named that in Parkes at any time. I think the Priest/Father might have been either travelling though Parkes at the time or standing in for the normal. And neither had any records that could help me. I have also been in touch with Parkes Library and no help there either. And on James, children birth certificates his age changes so he was born between 1857/1861 in Bawn, County Caven, Ireland. Have contact Family History Centre in County Caven and Riley in is Smith in Caven and in the year he might have been born 53 James Riley were born so it is like looking for a needle in a hay stack there unless I have parents names. And in NSW there in 40 James Riley's died between 1900 and 1930. James last child was born 1901 and when my Grandfather enlisted for the First World War it has Father whereabouts unknown. So I am wondering if some might know where I could go from here or if they know of the Church named St Columba's or where I could find if M Campion was a Father or Priest and where his normal Parish might have been. Hoping some one can help. Kind Regards Chris
Hi Chris, just trying to find a little more info on your family......looks like the family moved to Sydney at some stage, was Ellen's middle name Maria ? and did she remarry in Gosford, also did Allan Michael Riley die in Gosford ? just trying to find the movements of the family and marriage of the children, James, Catherine, Allan and Cecilia, is this correct ?
