Hi all, I am currently researching the movements and life of Charles Alfred Sibert , a travelling photographer around NSW in the period between 1870 and 1910. What started off as an attempt to date a family photo with a Sibert stamp on the back, has turned into a fully blown research project - so interesting is his life! I have made contact with a number of Historical Societies ( I am a member of Mudgee Historical Society) and various museums/libraries. My intention is to provide a copy of my research to any Historical Societies who may be interested as it may help provide some more details for anyone who is trying to date their Sibert photo. His obit in the Windsor and Richmond Gazette states he was a Londoner and born about 1830 ( died 1908 in Mudgee). The earliest i have found any information about him is in 1871 - he is in Graytown Victoria ( news item in Victorian Police Gazette) but interestingly there are also unclaimed letters addressed to him in Mudgee in the same year. The earlier photographic stamps show him as "CA Sibert, travelling photographer, Melbourne". I am interested if there is anyone who may have any C A Sibert photos in their collection that may place him at a known place at a certain time. ( or who may be able to suggest resources- other than "the Mechanical Eye", "Australians Behind the Camera: Directory of Australian Photographers 1842-1945", Trove, and directories/gazettes available thru Ancestry and Findmypast - that I can access to fill out the details of his movements) Cheers Sue
