Hi Jo, I am heading down to our gene Rooms today & I will go onto Ancestry & try to send a message to one of the entries. Now that I know exactly where Portsmouth came from I can order a film. Many thanks for your persistence with my calls. I have given Gunning area a good search, I found Sarah's headstone in Gunning it is very old & the grave has sunk in one corner & no mention of John being buried with her. So I had a look on Familysearch.org to see if he was there and it was a bit confusing as the Birthplace might be Potsmouth, but the district or parish are listed as Potsea & Landport and Kingstone & East Southsea.I would think that would make it a big area to search if you did not know who his parents. **This note was from the Robinson F/Tree Jane was born before her parents were married. On her birth certificate it states that her father John Robinson's native place was Portsmouth. The nurse witness to the marriage was Mary Niblett.** Note If you go by the son John Marriages Certificate that John was still alive on the day of the marriage 22 Dec 1897 and them going by son Samuel Marriage cert. He had pass away by 7 Dec 1898 so you have a year to search. Note This is what was written on the Robinson F/tree ***At the time of John's marriage to Elizabeth Hillier in December 1897, John Robinson Senior was described on the marriage certificate as being a farmer, so was still living at that date. ***At the time of Samuel Robinson's marriage to Johannah Merriman in Dec 1898, the marriage certificate states that his father John Robinson was deceased** There are about 4 or 5 family trees but the other one I looked at is The Young Family Tree, who said that John was born in England c1830 and died 1874 Gunning. NSW but this must be incorrect. Where does it say John is from Portsmouth??? Is it a certificate that says John was deceased when Samuel was married. I have the Marriage certificate of John & Elizabeth & it shows John & Sarah are both alive. i didn't know some of the other details of the family so it is good to have these, thanks so much. I have received scanned images from Trove but there are no new leads on John as to where he may have died or anything else. So I am back to square one. I may get a film in from the Mormans on Portsmouth & see if I can find his baptism I guess this is the next thing to do. has anyone else out there done this? Better go Ann. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, February 19, 2013 7:01 PM To: [email protected] Subject: AUS-NSW Digest, Vol 8, Issue 37 Today's Topics: 1. Its funny that this info has come up just now. I sent off my request today before reading the list but thanks to Robyn I left off my full details so I will now go in with an id number & leave my details. I look forward to a reply. I am enjoying the info that keeps coming through this site, keep up the great work. Another request, where would I look for a Buriel of a family member who died at Coffs Harbour in 1973. Many thanks Ann. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, February 16, 2013 5:54 PM To: [email protected] Subject: AUS-NSW Digest, Vol 8, Issue 34 Today's Topics: 1. Does this mean if we find a record of a baptism etc in a film or book we have requested at our local family history centre then we can order a copy? I am assuming it doesn't mean records found atfamilysearch.org.<<< Robyn, I sent off a request for a record I found on familysearch.org....hadn't heard anything until today, when I had a note to say: " We cannot process your request without a full name, address and telephone with EACH request you make. Please supply us that information. Also, please go to the internet at: familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Photoduplication_Services to access the procedure for submitting requests. Thank you." I've had a look at the very helpful pages from the wiki, and went to the catalogue, but none of the film numbers I put in had been digitised.....as yet!!! This is an interesting paragraph... " If you go to familysearch.org, click on "Catalog" and enter the film or book number, you can check to see if it is digitized. If so, you can print off your own copies. If the film or book has been digitized, we will not fill a request as you can do this on your own." Hope this helps, looks like it's going to get easier to obtain records.....and they are free.
