Hi Trish, Thank you for those links and info re Tamerang (sic) as on James' birth cert.....I'll have a good look at the sites later tonight. It seems that either the family didn't stay long, or didn't do anything of note, because they are well hidden in records/newspapers. Tomerong certainly is a very old settlement. Thank you for sending that record re Victorian arrival , not sure that it could be our William, because he married in Nov 1856 in Sydney, and the ship arrived Vic Sept 1856. I've had a hunt around for a passenger list online, none to view that I can find, but the Newcastle Historical Society has one , so I might try there for a copy of the passenger list of the "British Trident". Or I could try the Vic record site also I guess. Snip<<The only other arrival I could find that would fit, is at the Victorian Archives - Wm BARNES, aged 19, arrived aboard "British Trident" in September 1856 (ref 111 001); no other family members with him, maybe they followed later when he was settled?>> Thank you for your help, I'll have a look around Kiama also, there is a marriage for a William Barnes there in 1888, could be the eldest son of our William, b 1859, Chippendale. ,-._|\ best wishes, / Oz \ jill \_,--.x/ [email protected]; > I'm having trouble finding the arrival into Australia , and the death of, > William BARNES, b. 1836, Birmingham, England.
