Just hoping there maybe someone on the list who can claim or assist with a Birth entry in the NSW BDMs. I have ordered the certificate however it will take 'up to 8 weeks' for it to be scanned. I am hoping this entry may be that of a sister of my elusive 'John MAHER' - supposedly born at West Maitland c. 1846. The details from the BDM entry are: MAHER, Sarah J; Parents John and Sarah Registration year: 1848; No 'District' noted. Any suggestions or assistance very much appreciated. Jen

Hi Jen, Did you know that you can view on film BDM's up to 1856 when civil regn began. These films can be found at some local libraries...don't know where you are but Parramatta, Newcastle and some local family history societies also have these on film as well as the NSW State Records at Kingswood. However, prior to 1856 there was not much info on these records. Sarah J Maher b 1848 to John & Sarah, Roman Catholic, East Maitland, Maitland; West Maitland; Regn No V1848 1614 Vol 65. Sorry, just realized it was a R/C record so is not available on the above films. However, you could try the Mitchell Library, Sydney films as I think some R/C churches are available there....another lister may be able to verify this as it's many years since I viewed films at the Mitchell Library. The above may help if looking for any further BDM's other than R/C though.
