Hi VickiI have a William Henry Ellison born 1860 Tranmere, Cheshire, England to parents William (M) Ellison and Ann Partington. He is on the 1891 census so it is likely not the same person. However many of the Ellison family originate from the Cheshire England area. He may even be in the same tree as you often find that there are cousins by the same name etc. Also many of `my' Ellison and relatives were boilermakers, in some censuses this was listed as a labourer too. They usually worked in one of the salt works in the Cheshire and Northwich areas. Many of their children then worked in the shipyards with the increase in employment in this industry. There seems to be several Ellison families in the Cheshire area so that might be avenue for you to explore. Hope that this information is helpfulCheersChrisQLD Date: Sun, 11 Oct 2009 21:04:19 +1000 From: vt <vickory@myisp.net.au> Subject: Re: [AUS-NSW] ancestry To: aus-nsw@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <20091011100408.790DE18D92@mail.wide.net.au> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed At 07:12 PM 11/10/2009, you wrote: >Many of us already subscribe to Ancestry >you could try asking me to do a few look ups >and work out then if it would help or not >christene Hi Christene, That's a very kind offer, thank you. My biggest hurdle is finding any information about my Great Grandfather, known to us as Curly ELLISON, correct name probably William Henry ELLISON... but this may or may not have been his actual name. I have found no birth marriage or death registrations as yet. I don't know if he ever legally married, I know he did not legally marry the mother of my Grandfather. I do know that he was gaoled in NSW numerous times between 1885 & 1914, I have those records, though interesting they haven't helped a lot as the age & place of birth varies between birth 1855-1865 in NSW, Victoria & unknown. He also used many alias surnames, most commonly Herbert, Peters, Smith & Barnett. I have all the related family descendants certificates none give any details of his parentage or place of birth. In 1887 his age is stated as 25, that's the only cert that gives an age, & he was living at Glebe. He would have died after 1932, but I have no idea how long after or where. His stated occupations were also varied... hairdresser, barber, boilermaker, labourer. I haven't explored electoral rolls as yet... one of the reasons I'm considering a subscription. Again, thanks for the offer of look ups, Regards, Vicki No virus found in this outgoing message Checked by PC Tools AntiVirus (6.0.0.19 - 10.004.098). http://www.pctools.com/free-antivirus/ __________________________________________________________________________________ Get more done like never before with Yahoo!7 Mail.
