Hi I am looking for anybody researching the TIERNEY family who lived probably in the Nowra & Bowral Area around the 1880's. I have a Margaret TIERNEY who married George CASEY on 10/9/1881 in the Shoalhaven District. I have found they had Ethel G (1889), born Bowral, Harold W (1895), born in Bowral and Katherine D (1896), born in Sydney - all Caseys. Have no idea what happened to this family after this. George's sister, Elizabeth CASEY also married a James TIERNEY on 20/1/1886 in Shoalhaven district. Don't know if James and Margaret are related. Elizabeth and James Tierney had at least two children Elizabeth Margaret (1889), Ethel M (1895), and possibily Ernest S (1892)and May and Lilian. I do not know what happened to this family except that Elizabeth Tierney, nee Casey died between 1911 and 1913 according to her daughter's Elizabeth M second marriage certificate - she was still alive when Elizabeth M married the first time in 1911 in Nowra. George and Elizabeth Casey were the children of Patrick and Winifred Casey who lived in the Nowra - Shoalhaven district from 1854. Margaret Kelly Sandstone Point, Queensland
Hi Margaret, I've just come back from the Nowra library and unfortunately didn't see your email earlier. I'll go back next week to see if I can find out any local information on these families for you. On the NSW BDM index - James and Elizabeth TIERNEY had children: Elizabeth M. TIERNEY, b.1889, Bowral (16880/1889) Ethel M. TIERNEY, b.1895, Nowra (15390/1895) Lilian TIERNEY, died 1924, Sydney (5270/1924) May TIERNEY, died 1919, Nowra (6975/1919) George and Margaret CASEY had children: Camden R. CASEY, born 1887, Berrima (17523/1887); died 1896 Bowral (1149/1896) Ethel G. CASEY, born 1889, Bowral (16889/1889) Ivy W. CASEY, born 1891, Bowral (7753/1891) Stella CASEY, born 1893, Bowral (7847/1893) Harold W. CASEY, born 1895, Bowral (1895/2041) On the NSW Archives website there is a divorce between Luke Henry Francis TIERNEY and Margaret TIERNEY (co-respondent named as John CARMODY) in 1881 (No. 0157). There is no subsequent marriage between Margaret TIERNEY and John CARMODY. Given the year of divorce, is it possible this is Margaret TIERNEY who married George CASEY? The TIERNEY's had five children, all seem to be born in the Armidale district. It may just be a coincidence. There is a death for Elizabeth TIERNEY, daughter of Patrick, in 1911, at Woollahra (12887/1911). At the Rookwood Cemetery, Catholic section, Elizabeth Rachell TIERNEY was buried on 4/9/1911, section M2*6*1348. Council Meeting Minutes of 11 Sept 1860 mentioning Patrick CASEY - http://www.ozhistorymine.com/html/nowra_council_meetings.html Patrick Tierney is also searching for information on Patrick CASEY of Nowra - http://shops.ecorner.com/epages/sag.sf/en_AU/?ObjectPath=/Shops/sag/Products/24339 Will get back to you next week, Cheers Trish Nowra NSW > I have a Margaret TIERNEY who married George CASEY on 10/9/1881 in the > Shoalhaven District.
