Hello Ray, The library provides a free service for simple requests (homepage, bottom right-hand side).. So if you have a date and want an easy search there is no charge http://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/ and http://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/services/ask/index.html I can find nowhere on the site where there is mention of a charge, and I have used their service (free) on a number of occasions. Some libraries introduce a charge after a certain amount of time spent on research (eg 15 minutes) but I've never had to pay for the service at the NSW State Library, Australian National Library or a few of the English libraries I've approached for information. I think if you can do a bit of research first so you can establish a short timeframe for them to look, rather than just asking a general question or search request, results in a faster answer and no fee being imposed.
