    3. I have an image of a memorial plaque inside Barlavigton Church, West Sussex which reads :- "In memory of Louisa Amy BRAGG who died on June 14th 1946 widow of James Wood BRAGG of Sydney Australia. Sometime of Barlavington Farm, she was, together with her husband a pioneer in the backblocks of New Zealand at the end of the last century.". Questions are these, are there any records of this lady and or her husband, where she lived in NSW and possibly her maiden name, so that I can discover when she migrated to either New Zealand or Australia. cheers Bob in Brisbane.

    3. Hi. I have just found him on the NZSG disc, stating that his Probate is at the NZ Archives in Auckland. Do you have a copy of this. It does state that he is of Elizabeth Bay Sydney, or that could be where he died. He is listed as an engineer. 3. Hi Bob, There is no record in NSW for the death of Louisa Amy BRAGG, or for her marriage to James Wood BRAGG. James Wood BRAGG died 1938 (cert no 364/1938), son of Robert and Mary, registered in Sydney. There was nothing in the National Archives or NSW Archives for this couple, or death notices on the Ryerson Index. They had, I think, three children - 1904 - James A. BRAGG, son of James W/Amy L, born St Leonards-NSW (7020/1904) 1908 - Madeline A. BRAGG, daughter of James W/Amy L. born Chatswood-NSW (2751/1908) 1909 - Mary BRAGG died 1919, daughter of James/Louisa, Auburn-NSW (10560/1919) I couldn't find what became of James, and Mary obviously died as a child. There is a marriage for Madeline B. BRAGG to Henry S. BURTON in Redfern-NSW in 1930 (10022/1930). Also a marriage for Madeline Beatrice BURTON to Peter Milford HARRIS in Sydney in 1943 (7859/1943) Henry Silvester BURTON died 1941 at Chatswood (15763/1941), son of Silvester and Ellen. Also found the following item on the NLA Newspapers site - Report of an aeroplane accident - http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/1164066?searchTerm=%22james+bragg%22 UK information - On the 1881 census there is only one possible match for parents Robert/Mary BRAGG with son Robert - Robert Bragg, head, 50, b.Chaffcombe-Somerset, dairyman Mary Bragg, wife, 42, b.Membury-Devon James Bragg, son, 11, b.Membury-Devon, scholar John Bragg, son, 9, b.Broadwinsor-Dorset, scholar Alfred Pinney, servant, 14, b.Buckland St Mary-Dorset Dwelling: Vembury, Thorncombe-Dorset, RG11 2127/167 16 On Find My Past passenger lists, there was a departure of J.W. BRAGG from London to Sydney. No marriage in England on FreeBMD for James BRAGG to Louisa UNKNOWN. I couldn't find their marriage in NZ either. 3. Hi again Bob, A bit more info to add to your collection for checking. Just checked the IGI, and there is another possible baptism - James Wood BRAGG, baptised 30 Sept 1866, Westward-Cumberland; parents: Robert John Bragg and Mary (batch CO48961). Other children to this couple were William Henry Bragg, baptised 31 July 1862, and Robert John Bragg, baptised 31 March 1864. Information on William Henry BRAGG, b.1862, son of Robert John Bragg and Mary Wood, who settled in Adelaide. Maybe James/Louisa have connections in SA? - http://adbonline.anu.edu.au/biogs/A070396b.htm http://gutenberg.net.au/dictbiog/0-dict-biogBr-By.html http://www.physics.adelaide.edu.au/history/First75Years.htm On Find My Past passenger list, there is another listing for J.W. Bragg, b.1865, departed London 1891, to Sydney-Australia The OPC for Sussex has some information on Barlavigton - http://www.sussex-opc.org/index.php?cy=2&k=159&t=Parish Photographs of Barlavington Farm - http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=7877614 Cheers Trish Nowra NSW > "In memory of Louisa Amy BRAGG who died on June 14th 1946 widow of James > Wood BRAGG of Sydney Australia. > Sometime of Barlavington Farm, she was, together with her husband a > pioneer in the backblocks of New Zealand at the end of the last century.". > Questions are these, > are there any records of this lady and or her husband, where she lived in > NSW and possibly her maiden name, so that I can discover when she migrated > to either New Zealand or Australia. > cheers > Bob in Brisbane.
