    3. Hi Glynis, I've had no luck searching for the placename "Somers Town" either. Nothing on NSW Archives under census, not in the Post Office Directory 1867, Govt Gazette, or newspapers. Hawkesbury On The Net came up blank also on the dropdown list of locations; if you don't have any success, you might try contacting them direct to see if there is any information available - http://www.hawkesbury.org/?c=placenames-search http://www.hawkesbury.org/?c=page&thread_id=6 Cheers Trish Nowra NSW > Could sks enlighten me with details of "Somers Town" in the Electoral > District of the Hawkesbury - 1859-1860 & 1860-1861, please? > Any assistance or suggestions will be gratefully accepted, many thanks in > advance, > Glynis Wheeler > St Clair

    3. There is a town south of Melbourne (near the Flinders Naval Depot) called "Somers" - you sure you have the right State? Or maybe that was named after the same person who called your spot "Somers Town" - Begs the question... who was Somers? Cheers Ainslie.

    3. Hi Glynis, The Nepean covers the areas you mention re Blue Mountains, Emu Plains etc; the Council may be able to give you some info - http://www.penrithcity.nsw.gov.au/index.asp?id=1981 http://www.penrithcity.nsw.gov.au/index.asp?id=191 State Archives gives the Districts on the Census but hasn't broken it down into towns for Hawkesbury - http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/guides-and-finding-aids/short-guide-7/g-to-k#hawkesbury NSW Electoral Office - http://www.elections.nsw.gov.au/ Cheers Trish Nowra NSW > Thank you for your efforts - I wonder if the Electoral commission could > shed > some light on this quiry? > Glynis

    3. Hi Glynis There is a place called Somersby, a bit inland, on the NSW central coast, not too far from the town of Gosford and very broadly in the Hawkesbury area, it may be worth considering, especially as I have an idea that in the 1860's the term Hawkesbury area may have covered a wide area of the country side Perhaps Somersby is worth considering Patrick ----- Original Message ----- From: "Trev Symonds" <psym8950@bigpond.net.au> To: <aus-nsw@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 08, 2009 1:40 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-NSW] SOMERS TOWN > Hi Glynis, > I've had no luck searching for the placename "Somers Town" either. > Nothing > on NSW Archives under census, not in the Post Office Directory 1867, Govt > Gazette, or newspapers. 3. Hi Patrick, Thanks for that suggestion. May be someone has more knowledge about Somersby and the possibility that someone could have been living there but travelled to Emu Plains to get married.
