Hello, " date 8th April 1908 written across it ( CL08.53)" would mean 53rd Conditional Lease of 1908, granted n 8 April 1908 I would guess. If it were an application it would be called perhaps CLA ... but such unlikely to be put on maps. On the 1895 Parish map of Merinda, there is a portion of land on Conditional Lease that has the date 8th April 1908 written across it ( CL08.53); I was wondering if there were any experts out there (Terry?) who could tell me what that date refers to eg. The time that the lease was taken out/approved or the time that the lease expires or..? If anyone can help I'm happy to send an image of the portion of land if that is any help. Hi John, Thanks for your reply - I also thought that it would be the date that it was granted but one of the names on the lease, MJ FITZPATRICK actually died in 1895. The other person on the lease is an MR LOWE who was still alive in 1906 but the 1912 parish map reads that the land is now in the hands of the "exrs of the late MJ FitzPatrick Snr". So I am basically trying to figure out how this could be. There is a son, also MJ FitzPatrick, who I originally assumed was the co- lessee until I looked at the 1912 parish map. I hope that makes sense. I'm sure ive missed something very obvious... like when you are looking for the peanut butter and its staring at you right in front of your nose!
