    3. Hi Jenelle & List Gloria's email mentioned a Thomas HAMPTON but she seems to be asking if the Thomas HAMPTON who was a bushranger is the same as her Thomas HAMPTON. It seems Jenelle has jumped to the conclusion that they were the same person. Is there any evidence for that conclusion? A search of the NLA newspaper site turns up several Thomas HAMPTONs who cannot have been the same person. For example: The Hobart Town Daily Mercury of Monday 28 November 1859 at page 2 carries a report of a murder of one Thomas HAMPTON at Brighton: http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/3259406 The Melbourne Argus of Tuesday 5 April 1859 at page 4 carries a report of a inquest into the death of another Thomas HAMPTON who accidently drowned on the 27th March whilst attempting to escape from a "lunatic asylum". Cite: http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article5678975 The The Sydney Morning Herald of Wednesday 18 July 1860 at page 4 reports that another Thomas HAMPTON was sentenced to 5 years hard labour at Wollongong Quarter Sessions. http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article13043166 Perhaps this Thomas HAMPTON is the same person as the person sentenced in 1866 for highway robbery (bushranging) of the Singleton mail; perhaps not.
