Can anyone on the list tell me what 'clearances' means under the Shipping Intelligence in the 1800's Sydney Morn Herald newspapers? I understand arrivals, departures, and even cleared out (means departed?).......but the heading Clearances???? Many thanks Colleen Central Coast NSW
