I am hoping to identify the parents of my g-grandfather, William Barton. According ages shown on birth registrations of his children, he would have been born 1847/1847 and stated that he had been born in Windsor. William's marriage certificate says "Parents not listed" and his death cert "Parents not known". NSW BDM's have no birth registered for a William Barton in the right time frame (a couple too early) but there is one for a William Burton born 1847. Can someone tell me how to access the registers that the information on NSW BDM were transcribed from. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Hi Barbara The pre 1856 baptisms, marriages & deaths are on microfilm at some libraries including the State library, Sydney & the State Records at Kingswood. Hi Barbara, Futher to Joan's reply that the records for earlier baptisms are available at some libraries, this link will give you the access points (click onto the placename to get address etc) - http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/resources-for/people-in-regional-nsw/community-access-points/community-access-points Marilyn Rowan charges only $10 to transcribe the early church records, I'm not sure what Joy Murrin's fee is - http://www.transcriptions.com.au/pages/transerv.php On the NSW BMD Indexes, the William BARTON born 1847 has parents Thomas and Elizabeth. There is an arrival of Thomas and Elizabeth BARTON aboard "William Metcalfe" in 1844. The Online Reel shows this as a bounty ship, arrived Sydney on 13 March 1844; they are shown as Thomas BURTON aged 28 from Wiltshire, Protestant, an agricultural labourer who can both read and write; and Elizabeth BURTON, 20, Hampshire, Protestant, read and write, tailoress.
