This child, also most likely named Sarah, is recorded along with a brother and a sister, my GG grandmother Mary Ann, on the convict indent simply as two daughters and a son accompanying their convict mother. I have found a possible candidate who in 1845 was working for a Mrs. Dacre on Kennington Farm at Hexham. The Dacres moved to New Zealand about 1850 although I have found no record of Sarah accompanying them. This Sarah had been at the Sydney Orphan School before being apprenticed to Mr Badgery who appears to have allowed her to be taken to the Bay of Islands where she was abused, in a manner that we would at the very least call child molestation today. When she was returned to Sydney she was sent to the School of Industry until she until she went into Mrs. Dacre's service. As with many in Ireland with the name "Lynchey" Sarah became known as "Lynch". Long winded I know but any help with information or pointers will be very much appreciated. Peter Melbourne

Hi, Listers, I've done some digging...and the photo of Jessie Buchanan at appears to be the Jessie Winifred Buchanan of Murwillumbah, NSW....she is listed in the 1936, 1937 and 1943 electoral rolls and would appear to be the right age for the woman in the photo. Hello, Listers I'm working with a friend in NSW and we are trying to find pictures of those who served in WWI and are listed on the Honour Boards of the Coff's Harbor Museum. Jessie Helena Buchanan served as a Nurse during the War and received the Red Cross Honour. She is the only woman to be listed on their Honour Boards. Her brother Hugh also served and we have located a picture of him. Do you or any other Buchanan family descendants have a picture that you can send me? The Museum would prefer to have a picture from showing her as a nurse near the time of WWI, but any photo of her would be appreciated. I have also tracked resources for the time from 1921 when she arrived in San Francisco, California until she returned to NSW by 1933. I have found her listed in a number of nursing journals, but no pictures. I have sent a note to those with postings of her Tree on Ancestry.com.... Any other suggestions or help would be very much appreciated and that is why I am cross-listing my request for help! Thanks kindly, Elaine AUS Descendant in Reno, Nevada
Hello Elaine Thank you for your reply. I am aware of the information that you posted but I could not find records that gave his age e.g. TOl etc. The following is the reply that I received from a researcher at my local Family History Group for my question to the list. " All accurate, children were expected to be baptised within 60 days of birth, but often 1 year or more old. The Julian calendar only effects events January to March so 1763 is the year. Edward was actually 75 years 2 months and about 19 days. They would term in those days that a person was in his or hers XX year so Edward was in his 76th year. I consider it acceptable for a age being 1-3 years out as many peoples maths was not good or they did not know the age at death, also the problem that convicts would fudge details to make it harder to track their origin. Edward does not appear to have done this and has carried on the family names." Source Church of England Parish Registers, 1538-1812. London, England: London Metropolitan Archives. This is my question, is the Edward who died in 1839 the same Edward who was born in 1763? If Edward was 76 as stated at the time of his death then he was born during the period 10th February 1762 to the 9 th of February1763. The above Edward who was born in 1763 would 75 years old in February 1839. The Edward who died in 1839 and arrived in 1790 was tried in 1788 at Middlesex, this is the same county where an Edward MERRICK was baptised. I believe that they could be the same person but the age at the time of death should be 75. If not I will have to do more searching. Hello Allan I have Edward Merrick in my database without parents recorded, and I have his birth as about 1763 in London. As he is not related to me, I have not delved further into his ancestry. My interest is through two of his grandchildren who are connected to my Neeves family of Singleton. I have just checked on the names of Edward Merrick and Mary Elizabeth Russell's children, they were named John, Mary Elizabeth, William, Joseph, Richard, Thomas and Susannah. The was a custom of naming children after the husband's parents and then the wife's parents. It could be assumed that Edward is the same person as that born in 1763 based on this naming custom. Dear members. Is there anyone who has information or is related to James Corless(Carless) and Bridget Kearns (Cairns-Kerrins). The family lived in West Wyalong between 1890-1894 perhaps even after 1894. The couple was born in Galway Ireland and came to Australia but unfortunately no evidence to find. In the family were 9 children but only 3 known by name. James Jr.(1887) where born ?. Ada (1890) and Maria (Mary) (1894) both born in West Wyalong. Father James died before May 1912 because that shows marriage certificate of son James.jr. mother Bridget was still alive then. Son James died in 1947 in Walcha NSW, daughter Ada died in 1953 in Dubbo as Ada Hallcroft. Ada’s death certificate shows no father and her mother is called Kerrins. Archives Galway Ireland shows more births and marriages of a James Corless and a Bridget but there are no death certificates available in Australia of James and Bridget and therefore their parents cannot be found. There is a death certificate of a James Corless (1893) but is not the right one. No newspaper clips in Trove or Ryerson index. All kind of information is welcome. Thank you.

Lex, no guarantees that this is the same person, but the 1850 California census for Weaverville in El Dorado County (gold mining district) lists William Morgan age 21 born in North Carolina as a gold miner on 3 october 1850. Because of his age, he would not have been listed individually in the 1840 census so there is almost no way to know his history before 1850. regret that I could not find anything further.... Hello David, You could try making some enquiries of the NSW Trustee and Guardian - 1300 364103 which I understand is similar to the Public Trustee in Queensland. They may be able to point you in the right direction even if there was no connection with the public system.
