    1. [AUS-NSW] Police Gazette
    2. dianna charles via
    3. HI Does anyone have the Police Gazette on CD for the earlier years of late 1860’s up until 1881. John WALTON was sentenced to seven years on the roads at Tamworth Quarter Sessions in 1881. Also sentenced to eighteen months in Mudgee GAOL 7 December 1875. I’m just trying to put a timeline together to sort out which John Walton is what. There is a photo of him from the Gaol Register 2691/78 say’s he was born in 1857 Liverpool Plains? Date could be wrong though as a John WALTON married an Angelina (Anne) SNOW in 1872. From the marriage record it has he was from (or usual residence) Liverpool Plains, it’s a bit hard to read. He would have only be 15ish when married, no parents listed on the certificate giving permission. Angelina born 1857 I’m trying to tie this up with the John Walton who died in Bingara in 1903. On his “First wifes” death certificate, she being Angelina CHRISTOFF died in 1917. It states that her first marriage was to John Walton and the children listed are ELIZABETH 44 B 1873, EMILY 42, B 1875, George 39, B 1878, Thomas 37, b 1880. Angelina WALTON married George J. CHRISTOFF in Brewarrina in 1885. Another question would Angelina aka Ann be able to marry Mr. Christoff in 1885 whilst still married to Mr. John WALTON. As he was on the road gang for 7 years maybe it was allowed or did they just not worry with formalities of divorce or other. No children registered born to Angelina/Ann CAMDEN/SNOW and John WALTON either. What a story this one is. Any suggestions gratefully received on the infamous John WALTON. Kind regards Dianna

    3. Morning Diana This is probably a bit of not very useful info in your search for Leary/Walton but sometimes weird things can help, so maybe tuck it away for future use I have a Catherine Leahy buried in the Catholic Cemetery at Balmain in 1868 she fell (?) over the cliff at Watsons Bay in Sydney and her death certificate contains very little information, there was an inquest Leary and Leahy are names that might have been misread or sometimes misspelt in 1868 Best Wishes Patrick Callaghan

    3. Hi List I’m doing research on the above who married a Daniel WALTON in 1842 in Port Macquarie NSW. Catherine arrived on the Surry in 1840 and I’m trying to find out if she was in Millbank prison!! She apparently left some of her children back in England therefore I don’t know if her married name is LEARY or this is her maiden name. I have found the baptisms/births of some of her children born to Daniel WALTON but am missing the last one born in c 1852 JOHN ALEXANDER WALTON. John had a few children with Harriet Louisa THOMPSON in Bingara from 1893. I could not see from any records Catherines permission to marry Daniel WALTON!! If anyone has any further information on Catherine Leary-Walton would be very grateful to receive it. Kind regards Dianna

    3. Hi Everyone I’m trying to find the death of the above who was married to Robert WALTON in 1927. This man seems to be using three different variants of his name ie. John Robert Walton enlisted in WW1 and WW11. It seems as though he has enlisted as JOHN ROBERT WALTON then again as Robert Edward Richard WALTON. This coincides with a birth found for R E R THOMPSON ( WALTON) NSW 1901 BINGARA. Elizabeth WALTON asked for a divorce from the above Robert Edward WALTON in 1938 as he had been convicted of breaking and entering/stealing twice in 1928. It said he remained in Gaol until May 27, 1932 and released on license on June 26 1934. I have just received John Roberts death certificate (died in 1966). His son is mentioned on this certificate (still living). Elizabeth was granted a divorce in 1938. I would like to find her death to piece together why the son was brought up by his aunty Mollie Walton-Pennington. So mum must have died while the son was still quite young. I have been told that the son of was born in 1930 but does not seem to fit as the couple were married in 1927, Dad in prison 1928-32/34. Maybe I have been given the incorrect birth date for the son. This is certainly an interesting family. Kind regards many thanks Dianna

    3. Hi Dianna I was fortunate enough to get my grandfathers record digitised when it was free. It does show quite a bit of information about his war service and next of kin etc. I am not sure how much it cost to get the digital copy these days but I think you will find it worthwhile. My grandfather was a POW but did not return his grave is at the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery in Thailand. 3. Dear Dianna, Bingara area is on the southern extremity of greater Sydney, so one would expect your ancestors to interact with those near Campbelltown and towards central Sydney Choose your mailing lists at: http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/AUS/ I would suggest the Sydney List, since it is very active, judging by the number of messages. Also, the Southern Highlands list but it doesn't seem to be very active. GENANZ is good, but remember it is gatewayed to a newsgroup as well so be cautious. The surname & Message boards on bottom left corner of http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ seem to invite a very specific response from a different clientèle. Have you done a "BINGARA" search on the "message boards" (68 responses) since, unfortunately, not everyone uses mailing lists. Unfortunately, searching using common surnames can be overwhelming!
