Hi Liz and list Please please please when posting tell us the time period in which you are interested. Newcastle is now the largest city in the Hunter Valley but before WW1 it was a port, road and rail centre serving the Hunter Valley, one of several HV towns. Wickham is Newcastle's west end. Lambton was a colliery which became residential area. Both are part of Newcastle City Council area. If you have a death in Newcastle, then the burial may be in any of many cemeteries or a cremation at one of a number of crematoria; see: http://www.huntervalleygenealogy.com/cemeteries/allcems.php That page will show you that not all are searchable online but explains how you can lookup. Thanks Ian for your reply. I wish mine had been a convict instead of HEIC, he would have been so much easier to trace. You are lucky to have so much recorded about your John Lynch. Hi Margaret, I've just come back from the Nowra library and unfortunately didn't see your email earlier. I'll go back next week to see if I can find out any local information on these families for you. On the NSW BDM index - James and Elizabeth TIERNEY had children: Elizabeth M. TIERNEY, b.1889, Bowral (16880/1889) Ethel M. TIERNEY, b.1895, Nowra (15390/1895) Lilian TIERNEY, died 1924, Sydney (5270/1924) May TIERNEY, died 1919, Nowra (6975/1919) George and Margaret CASEY had children: Camden R. CASEY, born 1887, Berrima (17523/1887); died 1896 Bowral (1149/1896) Ethel G. CASEY, born 1889, Bowral (16889/1889) Ivy W. CASEY, born 1891, Bowral (7753/1891) Stella CASEY, born 1893, Bowral (7847/1893) Harold W. CASEY, born 1895, Bowral (1895/2041) On the NSW Archives website there is a divorce between Luke Henry Francis TIERNEY and Margaret TIERNEY (co-respondent named as John CARMODY) in 1881 (No. 0157). There is no subsequent marriage between Margaret TIERNEY and John CARMODY. Given the year of divorce, is it possible this is Margaret TIERNEY who married George CASEY? The TIERNEY's had five children, all seem to be born in the Armidale district. It may just be a coincidence. There is a death for Elizabeth TIERNEY, daughter of Patrick, in 1911, at Woollahra (12887/1911). At the Rookwood Cemetery, Catholic section, Elizabeth Rachell TIERNEY was buried on 4/9/1911, section M2*6*1348. Council Meeting Minutes of 11 Sept 1860 mentioning Patrick CASEY - http://www.ozhistorymine.com/html/nowra_council_meetings.html Patrick Tierney is also searching for information on Patrick CASEY of Nowra - http://shops.ecorner.com/epages/sag.sf/en_AU/?ObjectPath=/Shops/sag/Products/24339 Will get back to you next week, Cheers Trish Nowra NSW > I have a Margaret TIERNEY who married George CASEY on 10/9/1881 in the > Shoalhaven District. Hi Jenny you are off topic. Here's a way to get back. If you have a query that isn't on topic, try searching for a board or list that is. You will get much better answers than this from those at that list. http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ will allow you to search for a list or a post that is on your topic whether it be software suggestions or some shlomo from some shtetl. The advanced search feature even allows you to restrict your searches to recent posts so that you don't get advice on something than ran on a MicroBee from a cassette under C/PM. If you are asking for software advice, you need to be more specific: what operating system are you using? (eg I'm using a IBM compatible running under Vista Home Basic) what is your budget? (eg I'd like a freeware program) what is your level of experience - computing and program type specific (eg I'm a newbie but an experienced graphic artist) how is your data stored (eg I'm using a manual system to store my data) If you are looking for freeware, a good place to start is http://www.pricelessware.org/ Then there are places that have heaps of info: http://en.geneawiki.com/index.php/Main_Page http://www.coraweb.com.au/software.htm http://www.cyndislist.com/software.htm Good luck with your research! 2009/9/4 Jenni Kay <jenni@esc.net.au>: > Hi all,

Hi all, I am trying to find a programme that will print out my family history chart. Would anyone here mind please advising me of what's available? I've tried writing this out by hand but the paper just isn't large enough., and I'm sure I can fit a lot more info into a printed chart. I'd like to list basic info such as birth year and place, marriage year and place, and death year and place. Anyone who wishes to discuss this with me off list, here is my email address: jenni@esc.net.au Thanks, Jenni
Hi I am looking for anybody researching the TIERNEY family who lived probably in the Nowra & Bowral Area around the 1880's. I have a Margaret TIERNEY who married George CASEY on 10/9/1881 in the Shoalhaven District. I have found they had Ethel G (1889), born Bowral, Harold W (1895), born in Bowral and Katherine D (1896), born in Sydney - all Caseys. Have no idea what happened to this family after this. George's sister, Elizabeth CASEY also married a James TIERNEY on 20/1/1886 in Shoalhaven district. Don't know if James and Margaret are related. Elizabeth and James Tierney had at least two children Elizabeth Margaret (1889), Ethel M (1895), and possibily Ernest S (1892)and May and Lilian. I do not know what happened to this family except that Elizabeth Tierney, nee Casey died between 1911 and 1913 according to her daughter's Elizabeth M second marriage certificate - she was still alive when Elizabeth M married the first time in 1911 in Nowra. George and Elizabeth Casey were the children of Patrick and Winifred Casey who lived in the Nowra - Shoalhaven district from 1854. Margaret Kelly Sandstone Point, Queensland

Hi Joan Yes, I recall that your John LYNCH arrived via India and was military. The John LYNCH I have recorded has his story told in "Mines, wines and people : a history of Greater Cessnock" by W.S. Parkes, Jim Comerford, and Max Lake in the chapter on 'Landholders on the south arm of Wollombi Brook', part iv: "Currency lads: Irish Lads: Lynch-Chapman-Cagney-Moore-McMullen-Peter Byrne-Morton" p. 49 ff. This John LYNCH was an Irish convict who arrived per 'Archduke Charles' (dep. Cork 1812; arr. Sydney 1813). Regards Ian Jordan

Hi Ian I wish I could say I knew who my grandfather was named after as far as the SYLVESTER name goes. I do know for sure that Edgar Julius was named after his mother's [Deborah Jane] half brother Edgar Julius who died as a baby. As my grandfather Edgar Julius Sylvester Lynch was illeg. I believe Sylvester to be either the christian name or surname of his father but have not been able to find any trace of him. None of the names you have mentioned are known to me. Probably just a coincidence, worse luck! I'd love to find out more about my Lynch family. I think I have mentioned my John Lynch b 1827 to Patrick Lynch came from Kilrush Co. Clare before joining the European Infantry and leaving for Madras in 1848. I would be interested to hear where your Lynch's came from. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ian Jordan" <paynescrossing@gmail.com> > Hi Joan > > Edgar Julius SYLVESTER LYNCH ??? > > Do you know why he was given the name SYLVESTER? > > Hmmm.... > > I have a John LYNCH who was the second husband of Sarah Jane > PENDERGAST m. 1825 at Windsor NSW; both lived and died at Wollombi, > NSW, John in 1852. > > In 1906 when Sarah Jane's grand niece Louisa SYLVESTER (married a > MARTIN) and grand nephew T J SYLVESTER (married a BURGESS) had a > double wedding the party included the following LYNCHs were involved: > > Train bearers: "little Mollie Lynch" > Groomsmen: R. Hi again Bob, A bit more info to add to your collection for checking. Just checked the IGI, and there is another possible baptism - James Wood BRAGG, baptised 30 Sept 1866, Westward-Cumberland; parents: Robert John Bragg and Mary (batch CO48961). Other children to this couple were William Henry Bragg, baptised 31 July 1862, and Robert John Bragg, baptised 31 March 1864.
