Dear Listers, I did put this question to the GENANZ list a few weeks ago and had some good replies but not what I wanted. I am looking for a death of Victor Vidler. We know he was alive around 1960-62. He was born 1907 at Murwillumbah. He married Stella Grace Biddulph in 1929 and she is buried in the Murwillumbah cemetery.Victor remarried a Marie ??? in Qld. Is there a mailing list for the Murwillumbah area or is there a cemetery list on CD or something. He is not on the NSW BDM online. The person I am trying to help feels he is probably buried in Murwillumbah but it must be after 1978. I have also tried the Ryerson index with no success. Victor's parents were Noah Mark Vidler and Louisa Everson.I tried the local council for the area but they wanted $80.00 just to do a search which on computer would probably take 5 minutes. I thought that a bit costly for this 80 year old lady.Hoping someone may be able to help me, Regards Elaine

Have you searched the Brisbane Cemetery Database? There is at Pinnaroo in Bridgeman Downs Vidler Marie Emma 13 / 10 / 2006 97 years but no Victor http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/BCC:BASE:425868246:pc=PC_899 perhaps a search of the Courier Mail Death Notices around this date may give you a clue to her spouse?? or relatives ?? cheers Jewelly Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. Hello Ann, A needle-in-a-haystack without more information, a few names or dates to go on? Wodonga and Bonegilla are both in Victoria (yes, close to the NSW border), but there won't be any records for them in NSW and you may have more success joining the Victorian mailing list. Albury is the closest town on the NSW side of the border, unfortunately the cemetery records aren't online for checking; you might find some of the family wandered into NSW if you check the BDM index. http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/AUS/AUS-VIC.html http://www.ozgenonline.com/aust_cemeteries/nsw/index.htm http://www.ozgenonline.com/aust_cemeteries/vic/wodonga/wodonga.htm http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi/search?event=births Good luck Trish Nowra NSW > Please can someone look up for me and see if there are any deaths and if > there are any cemeteries records for the above. Hi Jenelle Thanks for the info. I have researched the BDM's, I was hoping someone knew the family and had more information. Hi Sue, Found the following info online - Trish Nowra NSW There are two children on the NSW BDM index - Mary A. WICKENDEN, born 1833 (V1833186 126/1833); parents John and Catherine Rosanna WICKENDON, born 1839 (V18391371 24A/1839); parents John and Catherine Also found someone else looking for them on Ancestry - John WICKENDEN c.1788 in Kent, married Catherine ??? in Caven-Ireland; arrived in Australia on "Bussorah Merchant" as a soldier with wife and son in 1832. John WIGGINGTON under Captain Moncrief, arrived 14.12.1831, from Dublin. Free passenger/Private in 4th Regiment/aged 35 years - JOHN WICKENDEN (WICKENTON) 1791-1872 CATHERINE McMANUS 1813-1855 John WICKENDEN was born in the County of Kent, England. On 1st January 1821 he enlisted as a Private in the 4th Regiment-of-Foot at Salisbury, England. Stationed at Cavan, Ireland in 1829 he was for 9 days in the Regimental Hospital, and according to early family hearsay, he met Catherine McMANUS who was employed there. There is no record of their marriage in Chaplains Returns. In a detachment of the Regiment on board convict ship Bussorah Merchant John arrived at Port Jackson, Sydney, December 14th 1831, Catherine and their son Joseph were also on that ship. At his own request and on paying the required sum of Five Pounds John was discharged from the Regiment at Parramatta on 31-12-1834. He was a Police Constable at Parramatta from 6th June 1835 to 3rd March 1838. In 1838, John and Catherine with their children Joseph and Mary Ann overlanded to Shelley's station Bombowlee, near Tumut, N.S.W. where John was employed as a labourer. At Bombowlee their family increased with the birth of Rosanna in 1839 and William in 1840. The family overlanded to Port Fairy, Victoria, in 1842. John WICKENDEN was a tenant farmer on land at Rosebrook, Port Fairy in 1843. At Rosebrook the family of John and Catherine increased, Eliza born 1843, Sarah born 1845. Catherine died at Rosebrook in 1855 and was buried in the early (sand dunes) Cemetery Port Fairy. I do not know why or when John changed his surname to Wickenton. >From VICTORIAN DIRECTORY 1850-51 Wickenton, Mrs Midwife James Street, Belfast. John Wickenton Farmer. In 1859 John was residing and farming with son William at Wangoom near Warrnambool. In 1869, when William with his wife Ann and family moved to reside and farm at Panmure, John went with them. John Wickenton died suddenly at Panmure on 22nd December 1872. He is buried in Warrnambool Cemetery. "Fought at the battle of Waterloo" should not have been inscribed on the headstone of his grave, the 4th Foot Regiment fought there in 1815. John enlisted with that Regiment in 1821.2<<< http://boards.ancestry.com.au/surnames.wickenden/62.1.1.1/mb.ashx

Hi Ian, Thank you for the cemetary Information. Sorry I forgot to put in the dates--must have been having a senior moment!!. The deaths occured during the latter part of the 1800s and were people who came out from England to work in the mines. If he was only in NSW for 2 1/2 years, and didn't marry or have children, then you probably won't find out much more other than what is on his death certificate and the information given about his background in the newspapers. Have you checked the UK newspapers for that time period? Its possible his hometown may have reported his crime and execution, giving details of his family there. Cheers Trish Nowra NSW > THANK YOU, I HAVE THE NEWSPAPER ARTICLES AND HIS DEATHCETIFICATE. > LIKE TO FIND ALL THAT IS POSSIBLE ABOUT HIM.
Hi Trish The Gaol records will not include the trial records. These will be Supreme Court records. Depositions (ie record of evidence taken) http://investigator.records.nsw.gov.au/Entity.aspx?Path=\Series\845 The depositions 1841-1931 have been sorted into Sydney (by month) and country (alphabetical by place) for each year.
