    3. Thanks to everyone for their help with this puzzle. I tried searching with just the Christian name and initial, but no luck. I'm waiting on a marriage certificate, so I may find the information I want on it. I'll try the Tamworth FHS. Many Thanks Jean _________________________________________________________________ Looking for a place to rent, share or buy this winter? 3. Hi Margaret, Yes, thats an interesting possibility. I was thinking about seeing whether i could track down which masons might have been operating at the time, and then check the local historical society for possible records. The gt gt grandmother was Ann Denniss nee Hearn, (d 1908, aged 80) and her daughter was Sarah Ann ( married Matthew Fitzpatrick). The headstone reads 'Sarah Ann Denniss, dpd this life 12 March 1908, Aged 80 yrs" followed by "Sarah Ann Fitzpatrick...dpd this life 3 Oct 1911, Aged 38yrs" and finally "Muriel Denniss, Fell asleep 28 Feb 1920, aged 2 yrs" I thought perhaps an error of the family but perhaps it could even have been the mason.. bit like a whodunnit really. :) Cheers Sue

Came across a dozy recently of a William Henry son of a William gaining the name Charles Henry son of William Charles in the NSW deaths . How the Charles got added is a mystery as its not on any other doc Bye MargM Beautiful NSW Central Coast NSW

    3. Hi Listers, The suggestion that the deceased may have died in another jurisdiction is quite feasible. My G grandparents grave in Christchurch New Zealand lists on the headstone my grandfather's brother who "Died Serving His Country". I also have a photograph of the headstone on his actual grave in the Commonwealth War Cemetery in Alexandria, Egypt where he died in 1915 after being evacuated from Gallipoli. I have a very clear photgraph of a headstone in Tamworth cemetery, with a date of death in 1965. I have thought of the possibility that this person might have died out of the state, but have no way of knowing that. I've tried the Ryerson Index, but no luck. Many Thanks Jean

    3. Patrick, Unfortunately no death notices found yet, still looking. We dont know why she wasnt registered. She died at home suddenly from famiy accounts, one possibilty is she left behind a husband and 3 very young infants, so maybe he just didnt get around to doing it. The main thing is we know where she is now and we have all info on her in the family book. 3. Hi Jean, There are a number of possibilities that make it difficult to find the correct entry for a death certificate, but it would be rare for a death certificate not to have been issued when there is a body to bury. The date entry on the headstone may be incorrect - I have a headstone dated 1915 for a death that occurred in 1914. The Christian name or surname may be incorrectly spelt on the headstone or on the original death certificate, and therefore on the index. I have a lady who was named Bessie Ellen at birth and who was buried by her family as Elizabeth Helen. When a person dies in hospital, the staff there fill out the details for the death cert and they do not have all the relevant info - at times even putting a person down as unmarried when they were married with a family, because that information was not given at the time of admission to hospital. Have you searched the papers in the Tamworth area for a funeral notice or obituary? Have you tried every possible spelling variation on the death index? Have you contacted the cemetery to find the actual date of burial and the name given? Was the person cremated and the ashes buried there some time after her death? Good hunting, Rosalyn ----- Original Message ----- From: Sue England To: aus-nsw@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, September 17, 2009 8:55 AM Subject: Re: [AUS-NSW] Missing entries in on-line BDM Hi Jean, Just another take on headstones.. Its the same date of death, and on the same headstone as her daughter and another relative. Its possible that the headstone was erected some time later , and whoever has organised it, has not known her first name? I aways thought information on a headstone was definitive, but now i try to find out who erected the headstone... how long is a piece of string ? :)) Cheers Sue jean pearce wrote: > Hello Listers > > > > Has anyone on the list ever been able to obtain a certificate from the NSW Registry of BDM 's, > > where there is no entry for an event, in the on-line indexes? > > > > I have a very clear photgraph of a headstone in Tamworth cemetery, with a date of death in 1965. > > > > I have thought of the possibility that this person might have died out of the state, > > but have no way of knowing that. 3. Hi Barb I think I may have picked up this thread after it has been running for a while, so apologies if what I am about to suggest is old news. In my long running project to recreate a lost cemetery burial register, I have spent many hours searching funeral notices and have been surprised to find that many more deaths were not registered than I ever imagined would be the case, in one instance five family members submitted separate funeral notices and yet no one actually registered the death, so have you checked local papers to see if a death or funeral notice exists. The funeral notice at least confirms the death (and burial) and usually names the cemetery used. I suspect that the date of death has something to do with the non registration, if the death and burial take place, say, just before Christmas, the place to register the death may be closed and the job was put off until the new year and never got done Just a few random thoughts All the best Patrick ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara" <blacksheep21@optusnet.com.au> To: <aus-nsw@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 17, 2009 4:40 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-NSW] Missing entries in on-line BDM >I have a gg grandmother who died in 1884, no death recorded so no death > certificate and it seems nothing can be done. I've encountered cases where people have been listed on headstones and died in another country. I didn't get the original email that started this thread so I apologise if you have already provided the answer to this, but have you checked the burial register? Mind you, this isn't foolproof either as sometimes burials don't make it into the register. Leandra

    3. Hello Ray, The library provides a free service for simple requests (homepage, bottom right-hand side).. So if you have a date and want an easy search there is no charge http://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/ and http://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/services/ask/index.html I can find nowhere on the site where there is mention of a charge, and I have used their service (free) on a number of occasions. Some libraries introduce a charge after a certain amount of time spent on research (eg 15 minutes) but I've never had to pay for the service at the NSW State Library, Australian National Library or a few of the English libraries I've approached for information. I think if you can do a bit of research first so you can establish a short timeframe for them to look, rather than just asking a general question or search request, results in a faster answer and no fee being imposed.
