    3. Lyn, Try http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/indexes-online/ Here is the information I found on the State Records site about the divorce records. For records after 1930 you would have to go the State Records reading rooms at Kingswood. Divorce Case Papers, 1873-1930 - filed under: court, police, prison, indexes This Index now covers the years 1873-1923. There are over 20,000 entries covering a 50 year period. a.. Search the Index This Index now covers the years 1873-1923. There are over 20,000 entries covering a 50 year period! Please note: A final check of this index has not yet been carried out. Tip: Check Archives Investigator for item details of divorces from 1928-1930 and 1970. How was the index compiled? The index is compiled from the: Family Law (Divorce) Index, 1873-1976, [8/3242-47], Fiche 6130-6410. This index was created by the Supreme Court of NSW and records name of petitioner, respondent and co-respondent (if named), divorce number, year and remarks. The Index also includes judicial separations. Accessing the records The Divorce Case Papers, 1873-1930 and 1970 are held at the Western Sydney Records Centre. You can also obtain copies of the records via the Divorce Case Papers Service. Copies of standard size files are $45.00 each. What's in the Divorce Case Papers? The NRS 13495, Divorce Case Papers, are the key record series relating to divorce. The case papers contain evidence for each particular case including judicial separations. The series was created after the passing of the first divorce legislation in New South Wales, the Matrimonial Causes Act 1873. The information in the divorce case papers varies considerably. Examples of documents in the case papers include: a.. Petitions for the dissolution of marriage b.. affidavits (sworn statements) c.. petitions for maintenance d.. marriage certificates e.. decrees nisi (not always included) f.. decrees absolute (not always included), and g.. correspondence. 3. Hi Lynn Following up on your search for Nellie MAGENNIS / HUDSON. I had a look in the BDM for her parents, and her mother, Esther, seems to have been alive until 1959. There is a possibility that Nellie could be named in a will or letters of administration. Just a thought. 3. Hello Ainslie, Off topic, I know, but I also have a connection to the execution of Charles 1st. One of the three officers in Oliver Cromwell's army to sign the death warrant was Lieutant Colonel Robert PHAYRE (b. 1629). We have no proof but but it seems that the PHAIR family (and various other spellings) is descended from him. Another interesting tid-bit! 3. Hi folks, Thanks for the reply to my email - in my family researching experience I've had some interesting connections through looking at the local history for the period of my family connections with a town or region. While chasing up my Oxenbridge connections back to Sussex I noticed one of the ancestors was a member of parliament but lost his seat - looking further I found that he was one of the parliamentarians whose actions led to the execution of Charles 1st. You just never know what's going to crop up next!! Cheers Ainslie.
