    3. Hi Trish Thank you for details, Sarah's parents were John and Jane so I use fathers name to locate death in NSW. Is there a site for a Sydney newspaper were I could send a message asking if anyone knew descendants of Andrew and Sarah Cheers Brian -----Original Message----- From: aus-nsw-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-nsw-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Trev Symonds Sent: 15 November 2009 23:13 To: aus-nsw@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [AUS-NSW] FW: Andrew Smith Hi Brian, With a name like SMITH its difficult to identify family members, so I'm not making much progress. Andrew SMITH married Sarah HASKINS 1881 West Bromwich. I couldn't find them on a passenger list into NSW 1881-1884 when their first child was born here. He remarried Elizabeth SCLANDERS in Lithgow-NSW in 1897. After a bit of searching, I found Robert and Barbara SCLANDERS as parents in death indexes with children James, Thomas and Elizabeth. Elizabeth SMITH, daughter of Robert/Barbara, died Newtown-NSW in 1914. They weren't married in NSW, none of the children born NSW. The son James operated a grocery store on Cooks River Road at St Peters, registered 1904, carried on by son James Sclanders and widow Fanny Ryland after his death (NSW Archives) Andrew SMITH died 1907 Woonona-NSW, a northern suburb of Wollongong, a major coal-mining area south of Sydney. You may be able to find a headstone transcription through the Council or FHS - http://memorialgardens.wollongong.nsw.gov.au/DeceasedSearch.htm Illawarra FHS, headstones Woonona Presbyterian - http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ausifhg/localrecords.html You've given five children to Andrew/Sarah - Bettie 1883, Annie 1885, Lily 1888, Alice 1891, and William 1894, all born Parramatta except Bettie. The NSW BDM site has the children of Andrew/Sarah listed as - 1884 - Martha R.E. Smith, Lithgow-NSW (would the letter E be for Elizabeth/Bettie?) 1885 - Annie M. Smith, Newtown-NSW 1888 - Lily E. Smith, St Peters-NSW 1891 - Alice F. Smith, Parramatta-NSW 1894 - William J. Smith, Parramatta-NSW 1896 - Sarah J. Smith, Newtown-NSW (only a possibility) Lithgow is a town in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, also known for coal-mining. The other areas are suburbs of Sydney. The birth of Sarah J Smith is registered after her mother's death, assuming this child belongs in this family. If Sarah snr died in childbirth towards the end of the year, the baby's birth may not have been registered until the new year, and she was named for her mother? - just a thought. There were five deaths listed in 1895 for Sarah SMITH, so unsure which one you have picked up, but if it is the one registered at Redfern this is close to Newtown where baby was registered. I've only found one marriage for any of the children as the names are fairly common with more than one marriage to any of them. In 1918, Lily Emily SMITH married Frederick Edward CLARKE; Lily Emily CLARKE daughter of Andrew/Sarah, died Manly-NSW 1972. Frederick Edward CLARKE is listed at the Australian National Archives as born 22 September 1892 Glasgow-Scotland, Church of England, Fireman by trade; Service No 12136, enlisted Sydney 5 Feb 1920 for 7 years in the navy; next-of-kin Lily Clarke living at 8 Edmund Street Waverley NSW; he served on "Cerberus" and "Melbourne". I didn't find Lily's burial in Manly, Macquarie Park or Frenchs Forest - she may have been cremated; no death notice listed on Ryerson. You may need to purchase a few certificates to find more information. 1. [AUS-NSW] Mary Elizabeth KITTO
    2. Ruth
    3. Hello I'm trying to further establish who Mary Elizabeth Kitto is. On the 1930 and 1943 electoral roll for Broken Hill she is living at 140 Cornish street with Stanley, Kate and Kathleen Kitto. Stanleys mother is probably Kate and his wife is Kathleen. Stanley was b.1902 Ballarat Row SA m.1924 to Kathleen Head (b.1902) in Broken Hill and d.1943 Broken Hill. His mother was Kate Learmouth b.1872 m.1900 Moonta Minees SA to Joseph Thomas Kitto (b.1874 Redruth, Cornwall UK. d.1921 Broken Hill) d.1942 Broken Hill. Stanley J Kitto has his next of kin as Mary Elizabeth Kitto residing at 140 Cornish Street Broken Hill in 1943 when he enlists for WW2. He was demobilised in 1946. In 1946 when he marries Lois Aileen Rollison he uses his birth name of Eric Caughey (b.1926 Riverton SA). In the electoral roll of 1946 Lois Aileen is known as a Kitto and living with Mary Elizabeth Kitto. 1947 they are at separate houses but still both Kittos. Stanley dies in 1948 under both Stanley J Kitto and Eric Caughey. In 1950 a Mary Elizabeth marries Joseph Musgat/Muscat... is this the same Mary Elizabeth? If there is anyone who knows this family or can help work out Marys connection to the family I would be so very grateful. Any help appreciated Ruth

    3. Dear Folks, Is there anyone out there with a membership to IHR? I am interested in a James William MILLER who was an "Alluvia Gold Miner" working claims in the Armidale, Walcha & Uralla districts. Some of the addresses I have for him are: - 1/ Emu Creek via Walcha 2/ Enmore via Uralla 3/ Bora Creek Enmore via Uralla 4/ Doctors Creek 5/ Carvey 6/ Greylands I did at one time fine a registered claim registered to James in 1872 but am unable to find my notes on this. I did find it on IHR. Many thanks in advance Glynis Wheeler St Clair E-mail message checked by Spyware Doctor (6.0.0.386) Database version: 5.13660 http://www.pctools.com/en/spyware-doctor-antivirus/
