    1. [AUS-NSW] Dr. Edward Roberts Smith
    2. Gloria Hargreave
    3. I wonder if any Lister could help with my search for records for Dr Edward Roberts Smith, or offer suggestionsfor searches. Dr Smith was my gg grandfather's cousin. Both came to Australia for a time. The only record that I have been able to find relating to Dr Smith, is the birth of his son Dudley de Courcy Smith in 1879 and his death in 1889 at Cowra. I do have mentions of Dr Smith in the papers of the day, and these indicate that he was originally settled in the Carcour area. I have not found his arrival nor marriage. It is supposed that he married an Australian girl named Amy Frances de Courcey. I can find nothing about her. Dr Edward Roberts Smith returned to England ( Dudley Staffs)on the death of his father, Edward Fisher Smith, then living at the Priory Dudley STS. He had been agent for the Earl of Dudley, probably managing his coal mines and iron works, as many of the Smiths seemed to be coal and Iron masters. Edward Roberts Smith left Australia in 1892 with his wife. His death has been foundi n 1907 in England, but nothing re his wife. I am puzzled as to why there is nothing available in the carcoar area, nor BMD's. Cowra Hist Soc. has been very helpful regarding finding mentions of Edward in newspapers etc. He was Mayor there for a time. His son is buried on private property. I did send an email to the station owner but received no reply. I was hoping that the headstone might have clues. How do I find details of his arrival , marriage, and time at Carcoar? I would be so grateful for any help. TIA Gloria

    3. Dear Listers, I have been researching the Sutton family for quite some time. The above lady died when her daughter Katie Jean was only 4 days old.Katie L.L.B Sutton married James Thomson Gray 16 march 1903. Katie Jean was born 1912. I have found out that Katie Jean was adopted out to Crosby Hunter and his wife Mary Ann nee Weber. If there is any family member out there I would love to make a connection. Also can any one tell me how I can put the adoption into Family Tree Maker apart from making notes in the notes section. Katie Jean Gray was born at Portland. Katie Lucy Lloyd Barnes Sutton died Portland and is buried at Wallerawang. Many thanks in advance, Regards Elaine

Greetings Listers Many will know that for a number of years now I have been slowly re-creating the lost burial register of the Balmain Catholic cemetery and as part of that project I am currently trying to locate the last burial there. The cemetery officially closed about 1905 but few burials took place after 1900. Does any lister have any record of a burial into this place during 1903 or 1904. After about 1900 it was often called RC cemetery Leichhardt, as it was actually located in what was then known as the suburb of Leichhardt Fingers Crossed Patrick Callaghan

    2. Trev Symonds
    3. Hi again Brian, Okay, if his parents were John and Jane, then he wasn't the Andrew Smith who died in 1907 as his parents with Timothy/Jane. Correct death info - 1914, SMITH Andrew, parents John/Jane, Wollongong, Certificate No 13427/1914 Still in the coal mining area of Wollongong; interesting both he and Elizabeth seem to have died the same year. Rereading the notes I sent to you earlier, "they weren't married in NSW" wasn't quite clear, and referred to Elizabeth SCLANDERS parents Robert and Barbara, and not Andrew/Elizabeth. The Australian Family Tree Connections runs ads for those searching for descendants - http://www.aftc.com.au/ The Sydney Morning Herald is the largest newspaper in Sydney and goes Australia-wide - http://www.smh.com.au/ The Lists are a good place to find like-minded people, it just depends on whether descendants are researching at the same time as you are. Andrew Smith's death certificate may give you a lot more information and clues on where to go next, especially if the names of his married daughters help in identifying them in the records; especially if you are looking for Alice GUGELHEIM instead of Alice SMITH. NSW Death Certificates show - the name of deceased, date of death, place of death, age, occupation, cause of death, parents' names, spouse name, marriage details, childrens' names, number of children living/deceased, birthplace of deceased, last known residence, burial place including name of minister and undertaker. The information is only as good as the person providing the details.
