    1. [AUS-NSW] Delaware Rootsweb list
    2. Gloria Hargreave
    3. Thanks Trish. Have posted my query to the Geogia List and still searching for the best Delaware site which is going to be 'pot luck' as the family bible does not give any information at all about Isobel's father. All I have is that she was born in Wilmington Delaware. I'd like to know who her dad was. Gloria

    3. Would anyone be researching this family. Edward J crompton and Kate Rhodes nee Smith married in 1901 and had as far as I know 3 daughters. One only is named in the family bible and that is Dorothy E Crompton born 1903. She had sisters Marjorie or Mary Frances Esther and Ethel . Dorothy may have married John H Kirchler in 1926 My connection is through Kate R Smith who was my mother's aunt. Gloria

    3. Is anyone researching the Arnold family ? Frances Jane Sullivan, nee Barrett b Chelsea London in 1855 married a Mr Sullivan in USA and they had a daughter Sarah Isobel b. c 1874 in Wilmington Delaware. she must have been widowed soon after as she , ie Fanny Jane and daughter Sarah Isobel emigrated to NSW from London in 1877, with Fanny's parents George F Barrett and Frances nee Atkins and their surviving children, most being born in Georgia USA. Frances Jane married James Phimister in 1882. Sarah Sullivan married Robert John Arnold in 1901 at Paddington and as far as I know had 2 sons and 2 daughters. I would really like to contact any Barrett or Arnold descendants. Isobel ( Sarah Sullivan aka Isobel) was my father's cousin. Gloria

    3. Hi Gloria, As someone else said, if you go to www.rootsweb.com and scroll down to the Mailing List section, you can click on INDEX. There you will find all the categories, like Countries and Surnames and Miscellaneous. Go to USA and you will find every State. But, don't forget to check out all the Miscellaneous and Other sections under those categories. (For example, the Mariners List is found under "Occupations.") If you know the name of the List you would like to find, you can also click on "Find a List." While at the home-page at www.rootsweb.com you should check out all the other things which are available there. The WorldConnect Project is very important. I quite often find that someone has posted information there on one of my ancestors or their relatives. And there is a relatively new feature, "Archives Search," under Mailing Lists. It will search an ancestor's name - through all Lists for you. And there are always new Message Boards being created. I started up 2 new ones last month (for Canada and USA migration to each other). Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) (Don't forget the Message Boards at www.genforum.com ) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gloria Hargreave" <smith-thompson@bigpond.com> To: <aus-nsw@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 10, 2010 11:15 PM Subject: [AUS-NSW] Rootsweb USA Are there Rootsweb Lists for USA...I have been unsuccessful in locating the ones I want. 3. Hi Jewelly, Thanks for that information, I'll check it out in the morning. Ive just finished a stint at my lampwork beadmaking torch ! I work in the evenings as during the day the room gets too hot here in the summer. I have the window open for the exhaust fan to take any toxic fumes outside - but that allows the heat inside! 3. Hi folks, Still chasing up my elusive grandfather's travels in the very early 1900s. Can anyone help me with a list or organisation where I can get my grandfather's military information for the period he was in the British India Army? I tried the Royal Military School of Music records but apparently he arrived in the England with sufficient musical education to allow his entry to the Military Band membership by audition (normally a musician needed to spend four years studying at Kneller Hall in Twickenham before graduating into one of the bands) A researcher at the College checked the records but could find no trace of him and said that he probably gained entry via an audition (as he himself had done) I have my grandfather's marriage certificate dated 1906 in Simla, Bombay and know that he returned to NZ in 1907 b ut was still on the list in case the British Army needed to recall him for any other posting - this didn't happen until WW1 when he went off to Gallipoli and Europe. There are records held in Wellington for the European posting but I'd love to also find out where I can obtain his records for the period in India. Hoping someone on the list can help with some contact details for me. Cheers Ainslie in sweltering Adelaide, South Australia 41 deg forecast for three days in a row!!!
