Hi Dianne, I can only think she was Catholic but chose to be married alongside an Anglican spouse, or other non-Catholic family members. A non-Catholic spouse or close family members can be buried in a Catholic cemetery, so I assume the reserve is also possible. Or she converted to Catholocism after marriage but chose to be buried with her Anglican parents? Cheers Trish Nowra NSW > Hi > I have a death certificate for a Caroline Sullivan, died 1896. G'day Census 1841 NSW shows mr John Scarr, owner Marengo Station in Murringo NSW On his property lived more people and I am searching to find their names. There lived "convicts" and "free" people, men, women and children. Are there records available with those names ? Thanks.
Hi I have a death certificate for a Caroline Sullivan, died 1896. It states that the place of burial was the Church of England Cemetery Waverley and the minister was a George P Birch Roman Catholic. I have looked up George P Birch in the Sands Directory and he is listed as Rev G P Birch (R.C) Albert St Wollahra. Can anyone suggest why a person buried in the Church of England section in a cemetery would have a Catholic minister perform the ceremony? Keen to hear your ideas and if anyone else has found this in their family Thankyou. Regards, Dianne Myers
Hi Kerry, Jill and Others on the List, The Australian Newspaper website has a huge number of photographs of WW1 soldiers killed in action. Thank you for all the links. When I was working in the Broadway area in the late 1950's I used to walk past these streets each day and to think my ancestors were living in Lodgings in Parramatta St/Rd & Bay St in the 1850's. Hi Jackie, NSW BDMs online - http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi/search?event=births PEARSON, Anthony, died aged 86 years, Wollongong, cert no 25033/1951 No birth in NSW for him. There are three deaths registered in NSW for the name Anthony PEARSON but only one marriage (1951). It would be a good idea to purchase the death certificate for more information. A transcription agent is cheaper than the Register Office - http://www.transcriptions.com.au/ http://www.joymurrin.com.au/ Wollongong Cemetery records aren't online and a search fee is charged - http://memorialgardens.wollongong.nsw.gov.au/DeceasedSearch.htm >From the above info, it seems the one you have at Cringila Camp at Port Kembla (1 hour south of Sydney, coal mining area) would be your man, P.K. being part of Wollongong; he could have moved from Newcastle (1 hour north of Sydney, coal mining area). This mining site may be worth searching through - http://www.ozhistorymine.com/html/mining_indexes.html The staff at Wollongong Library are extremely helpful; you could try asking if there is any way of finding more info for Anthony PEARSON, as they have a great deal of local studies info including copies of the burial registers at Wollongong, Kembla Grange and surrounding areas - library@wollongong.nsw.gov.au http://www.wollongong.nsw.gov.au/library.asp http://www.wollongong.nsw.gov.au/library/portkemblanames.asp There's no record of him at NSW or National Archives. Could I please ask if there would be any way in which I could find the Huntsman Public house in Parramatta Street, Sydney area, [which I believe possibly Parramatta Rd & near the Sydney University grounds now] in the year 1858. This address was given at the Central Police Court 8 Jan 1858 when a John Lynch was apprehended there by police. Thank you Joan -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter.
