    3. Thank you for your reply. The line I am really following is Eliza HUMPHREY nee JEFFERIES. She was the sister of my ancestor Sarah Ann HOUGHTON nee JEFFERIES. As the HUMPHREY line is not my direct line, I have not purchased the certificates, however, I have obtained much information from various areas in which I have researched. I am really trying to fill in some gaps that would be nice to have but not important enough to spend money on....it is such an expensive business, even with transcription agents. The dates and information I gave in my last email is narrowed down to as close as I can get and I was hoping (with fingers crossed) that I might be able to link up with someone from one of these lines. I sometimes find it quite amazing who is lurking out there and if you don't ask the question, you never get the answers. Hopefully someone from these families is on this list and I can share the information of 25+ years research. Cheers Annette in Cowra NSW

    3. 1870 and 1877 death certificates should show "How long in the colony" which should give an indication of when they came here. Have you got them? Can you pinpoint them to an earlier date in Australia than the 1868 marriage of Robert and Eliza? Cheers

    3. Hi Ainslie I fear that GRAHAM is a relatively common name in Co. Tyrone. What evidence do you have to connect? At "GRAHAM EMIGRANTS TO NSW FROM FERMANAGH & TYRONE 1828-1896" http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nswgdhs/graham.htm you will find 119 GRAHAMs lsted" # 53, # 54, # 62 & # 63 are those I'm researching. 3. I have just returned to this list and hoping someone can help me find anything on the following. Top of my wish list is their entry into Australia. John Carlisle HUMPHREY born c 1809 Ireland (calculated from his death notice SMH April 1870) Believed to be a gardener. Married Letitia MARLIN c 1841 Ireland(calculated on the age of first child) in Bray, Ireland. UK Children: 1 - Robert born c 1841 Cork Abbey, Bray, Ireland - from death record. Married Eliza JEFFERIES 1918. 2 - Edward born - unknown - could be Bray Ireland d 1877 3 - Anne Letitia born - unknown - could be Bray, Ireland. The main family I am concentrating on is that of Robert and Eliza who had 10 children. 1 - Clara Letitia 1869 - 1896 appears not to have married. 2 - Annie E 1871-before 1918. Married Frederick CHURCHILL 1891. 3 - Emily S 1873 - 1965. Married Albert A HILL 1895. 4 - John Carlisle 1875 - 1913. Married Ada SPRING 1896. They had a son John C. who was a music student when he joined the AIF in 1916. I believe he became an engineer after that. 5 - Edith Martha 1878 - 1878 6 - Robert S 1879 - 1969. Married Millicent E JARVIS 1900. 7 - Eleanor L (Ellen) 1882 - 1960. Married Thomas D A EATHER aka Darcy EATHER 1913 8 - Ethel M 1884 - 1971. Married Sydney Edgar GATLAND 1908 9 - Elsie M 1887 - 1978. Married Victor Emanuel J MORTON 1907 10 - Frederick Edgar 1889 - unknown. Married Sarah Vida BOWMAN 1913. The GATLAND family appear from Electoral Directories to have separated but not sure. Frederick Edgar HUMPHREY and Sarah nee BOWMAN, appear to have disappeared after their marriage. Only Sarah appears in the 1930 Electoral Roll. Nothing before or after that date. Can't find a death for him but she died 1955. I have searched in the following websites - NAA, War Memorial, State Records, ancestry for which I have a Worldwide sub, Newspapers on line and have had a lot of luck with that, Googled, IGI, BDM's, The Ryerson Index and just anything I can think of. Maybe some of you are a part of this family, if so I would like to exchange information. Sorry to be so long winded, but they did have big families back then. Cheers Annette in Cowra NSW where the drought parched land received 4inches of rain over the weekend.

    3. I could be interested!! Our Margaret Jane Graham married a William Brown in Clogher. in Co Tyrone in 1883 - They migrated to Beaconsfield, Tasmania but we've been unable to find any relatives of Margaret's - We have an extensive history of the family here in OZ but nothing going back to the Grahams or further back into the Brown history. 3. Hi I have a Mary Ann Graham born about 1862 in NSW whose father, Robert GRAHAM arrived from New Park, Tyrone, Ireland (with his single sister to be followed by their parents a few years later) and whose mother, Margaret CHARLTON came from Dromore, Monaghan, Ireland. Any other GRAHAM researchers out there? Regards

    1. [AUS-NSW] CUNEO Genoa.Genova -> Hunters Hill, Sydney
    2. paynescrossing
    3. Hi I am researching the CUNEO family. According to "Garibaldi revisited" in the Northern District Times of 14 May 2008, much of the research on the net is based on one article and is mistaken. This article says that John Cuneo (1825-1884) was born in Genoa and in 1854 came to Australia first in search of gold then moved to Sydney where he set up a business in the city as a grocer and importer of Italian sculpture. He married Jane Barton in 1856 and in 1861 became a naturalised Australian citizen that allowed him to own land. He moved to Hunters Hill where he began the Garibaldi Inn in 1861, substantially finished in 1869 but further rooms were added until 1881 when it was referred to as a 16-room stone hotel. Although the Inn closed in 1911, the building still stands having been Mrs Nelly Rehm's confectionary shop and then, from 1934 until 1976, was Taniane's greengrocery. The NSW BDM online index records John CUNEO as having married Jane BARON (not BARTON). Her death registration gives her father as Thomas. There appear to be many CUNEO descendants so I'm hoping to make contact with anyone else researching the family. Regards

    3. Ray, Not sure what has happened to the headstones. The Old Dubbo cemetery was transcribed many years ago by the family history group & there were headstones for the WOODLEY's then. There was one bad bout of vandalism there a few years ago & a terrible lot of damage done to the headstones, so council has now erected a 6 foot high fence around the cemetery & it gets locked of a night time. Wonder if they were some of the WOODLEY stones were damaged. That's the only thing I can think of. Sorry to give you so much hope, only to be dashed. Cheers, Jules. Warren, NSW. Hi Liz Mollie JOHNSTONs death is in http://www.ryersonindex.org/ She d 1969 so should have a bit more recent info You can search Ancestrys indexes for free ........... Graydon JOHNSTON was a farmer out at Oberon in 1930 ( Oberon is probably even colder than Bathurst) In 1954 he and Mollie lived at 18 Blandford St Bathurst . He was a machinist of some sort Electoral rolls 1955 - 1988 are mostly found at State Libraries and were indexed by electorates and are in multiples sets of fiche and very hard to find anyone . From 1989 technology had advanced and since then electoral rolls indexed by State and still on fiche Bye MargM Beautiful Wyong Shire NSW

    2. Annette Pringle
    3. Hi Liz The electoral rolls on ancestry only go to 1954 and back in those days you had to be 21 before you could vote. Your only chance is if sks is going to the state library and can do a lookup for you, though you will have to have some idea of what area he lived in so I don't much like your chances. The other thought is that if he died before 1979 you would be able to order the transcription certificate from one of the agents or write to the registry of BDM's saying you want the death certificate for family history. You may have to supply identification and it is a bit more complicated but what the heck you will never know if you don't ask. Also a look in the Ryerson Index might reveal a date of death or funeral. Good luck Annette in Cowra NSW...where we have just had 4 inches (100ml) of rain.

    2. Barbara OConnor
    3. NSW BDM's are free to look-up - go to http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi/search?SessionID=20092880&event=births and Deaths - or Go to Marriages Search on the right. If you want to confine your search to Dubbo, enter that in the District the event was registered. Note that this was the district, not necessarily the place of death. If you want all the details you will have to get the certificate. Not as convenient as Vic BDMs - no download for us. You can buy from Registry Office (quite expensive and can take weeks) or get a transcription, about $17.50. This has all the details that the certificate has, but is not legal in a court of law. So unless you are thinking of contesting a will, go for the transcription. I use Lawrence Turtle, but there are others. As far as the cemetery goes, some are online, some aren't. You may have to pay someone for a headstone transcription. Australian Cemetries Index - http://austcemindex.com/cemeteries.php?state=NSW - has more NSW cemeteries than other states, but nowhere near all of them. They do, however, have Dubbo Pioneer - all 20 of them. You can also search by name. There are 31 inscriptions for Woodley. Hopefully a couple may be 'yours'. Cheers Barbara
