Hi Mistakes do happen with the cemetery registrations, not necessarily made by the cemetery but possibly made by whoever provided the information, in my work on the Balmain Catholic cemetery I have found several DC's which give the place of burial as Rookwood, but they dont appear on any of the registers there, unless there is a funeral notice it is very difficult to find where they were buried. That sounds feasible, but one would expect it to be on the appropriate cemetery index. Well, I would. I did a search for an 1880 Funeral Notice but no show. Wonder if it might have been possible for the 1880 death to have been registered in 2005 for the first time. Perhaps a family researcher came up with the death details without a registration ?? Which, of course, doesn't explain why he's not on an Index. Cheers,
Hi Kerrie I think it is fairly unusual to see the entry 'buried at Rookwood' on the BDM index, is it possible that Charles was originally buried in 1880 and for some reason his remains were exhumed and re-interred at Rookwood in 2005 Patrick ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kerrie Alexander" <kerriea@aapt.net.au> To: <aus-nsw@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, February 21, 2010 9:27 AM Subject: [AUS-NSW] Strange DEATH entry > Hi > > I have found a death entry on the NSW BDM index of a man whom I think > could be related. Greetings Bob Here's what I have on Bridget Rochford Baptised Tulla Co. Clare Ireland 1831 Parents Patrick and Mary Rochford (nee Hennessy) I thinks Bridget arrived Melbourne (maybe from the USA) about 1859, could have been earlier, I have never found her on a ship or passenger list If she arrived earlier its possible she married Stephen Brennan in 1857 My record has her marrying her cousin Thomas Rochford at St. Patrick's in Melbourne in 1869, Bridget would have been 38 at the time of her marriage to Thomas, so an earlier marriage is not out of the question. Bridget and Thomas had one child Two of Bridgets sisters Jane and catherine also migrated to Melbourne (from Ireland) Does any of this ring any bells? Hi I have found a death entry on the NSW BDM index of a man whom I think could be related. The entry reads Charles WATSON, died 1880, father unknown, buried Necropolis entry # 180163/2005. As the last four numerals in the entry number are usually the year of death could anyone tell me why "2005" is entered. I know I can ring the Registry Office & ask them but I can't do this until much later in the week so I thought I would ask on the list in case anyone has previously found this type of entry. I've also searched the three on-line Rookwood databases - (Catholic, Anglican & Independent) but can't find him listed. Thanks for any help. Regards Kerrie

Hello Roy Greetings from Sydney Australia I saw this email some time ago and put it aside to respond 'one day', well that day has come, so here goes I am interested in how you found the passenger list from the USA to Australia I have a Bridget Rochford who (with other family members)I believe migrated to the USA, from Ireland about 1850 I have been unable to locate the Rochfords arrival in the USA (Patrick and Mary and children) however Bridget comes to Australia (Melbourne) about 1859 and marries here. Despite considerable searching I have never been able to find the ship on which Bridget came to Australia, so my query is: how did you go about getting such precise information about the migration from the USA to Australia listed below I would be most grateful for any advice you can give Many Thanks Patrick Callaghan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gargan, Roy D." <roy.gargan@thermofisher.com> To: <AUS-NSW@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 30, 2009 2:25 AM Subject: [AUS-NSW] Sharp/e - Can anyone help track down this family? > John Sharp c. 14/9/1802 Grindon/Redmarshall > Co. Glenys, if no-one puts their hand up to having a Sandgate index, ring them, weekdays during business hours (no-one in the office on weekends) and ask for plot numbers. I have heard that they have a CD of headstone photos, but I can't verify this. But they will certainly be able to give you a location. I found them very helpful when I enquired about my g-g-grandmother. The person I spoke to gave me his work email address (no longer valid so either left or server has been changed) and asked me to email him. Almost straight away he sent me a reply attaching a scanned map with the plot marked on it. This is a very big cemetery and one would need a map to find the right spot. And crucial if you are going to ask SKS to take a photograph for you. Sandgate Cemetery 02 49683602 Cheers Barbara
Would anyone on the list have access to the transcript of burials at Sandgate Cemetery, Newcastle and be willing to check the LEWIN surname for me? I am particularly interested in Henry John LEWIN; Emma LEWIN, Caroline LEWIN, Florence Adelaide LEWIN, and Frederick Henry LEWIN, but if there are others I would be thrilled to know about them as well. Thank you for any help offered. Glenys

Hello everyone, I'm wondering if it is possible for someone to be able to do a look up for children belonging to Andrew McDonald and Caroline Jones? They were married in 1878 in Paddington but I believe that their children were born in Balmain. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ruth
