This is a long shot! Does anyone have an Edward HEALEY in their family tree who was born c.1921? In 1940 Edward Healey, 19, was driving a car that overturned at Dobroyd Point. Despite the fact that he had a fractured skull and was semi-conscious he removed his clothes and laid them over his dying companion in an attempt to keep him warm. The companion was Victor BOWMAN, also aged 19. Sadly, Victor later died in Manly Hospital despite the heroic efforts of his mate. Victor was the son of my great-uncle, Alexander BOWMAN. Although I've had Victor's death certificate for many years I've only just discovered the story of the accident in the online newspapers. I would love to know what became of Edward Healey. In the newspaper article his address is given as Huntington St, Crows Nest. Hoping someone can help. Cheers, Di _________________________________________________________________ Looking for a new home? For anything that may have survived of this action start with State Records: http://investigator.records.nsw.gov.au/Entity.aspx?Path=\Activity\181 See especially the links to transcripts at: http://investigator.records.nsw.gov.au/Entity.aspx?Path=\Series\14596 I would be surprised if you find any of this online or even available for inter-library loan. Hi Barbara, Thanks for this link - it does not answer my questions about 1927 but does answer another case that occurred in 2007. Good evening Barbara, Those are the two mentions that lead me to posting my query. > NLA Newspapers has the following - > http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/16419050?searchTerm=catliffe+%26+marshall > > http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/16419325?searchTerm=catliffe+%26+marshall > Now that you have mention about the law library, I do remember sometime ago someone was talking about a site on the internet that one could access for some of the cases. I will have to go through al my old emails & see if I can find that one. I know at the time it was posted I had some wonderful hours just surfing through the site. > Now, somehow you have to access a law library. NLA Newspapers has the following - http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/16419050?searchTerm=catliffe+%26+marshall http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/16419325?searchTerm=catliffe+%26+marshall These are just court notices advising that the cases are on that date, etc. But it does give you the dates and the judge. Now, somehow you have to access a law library. Unless you have a friend who is a law student or a friend practising, perhaps you could start at your local library. They should be able to direct you in the right direction. You may be able to access the information from a university library and, hopefully, one close to you. Then again, there are some very resourceful people on these boards and someone else might be more resourceful. Cheers
Dear Folks, I have a gentleman - Orlando FOOTE who on the 15th & 16th Novomber 1927 had a matter before the Worker's Compensation Commission in Bridge and Young Street, sydney for determination. His case was against CATLIFF & MARSHALL. Would anyone have any suggestions how I could find out what the determination results were? Many thanks to Jo and Elaine who put me on the right track. I picked Andrew & Margaret up on the 1899 W. Australia Directory living at Henderson Street, Fremantle. (Now, of course, I'll wonder why they went all the way to WA. Honeymoon? The recession of the 1890's?) It does not appear that they had any children - no births in NSW or WA. Andrew died 4 February, 1931, Margaret on 24 June, 1949. Both buried South Fremantle Cemetery. Another little box ticked. Cheers Barbara
Hi Barbara Me again, there was a Margaret McAlloon on the E. Roll who lived at Douro Road Fremantle from 1931, 1937, 1943 but she is by her self no Andrew. And they died in Fremantle - Andrew in 1931, Margaret in 1949.
Bless you. I didn't think of looking further afield. Just assumed (yes, I know) that the name was spelt incorrectly. But it makes sense - Newcastle - my g-g was a sailor. I'll have a look on WA BDMs. Many thanks Barbara

G-g-aunt Margaret Rooney, born Newcastle area 1873 married in Newcastle area in 1893. According to the marriage registration, the groom was Andrew McAlloon/MacAlloon. This registration entry seems to be the only registration on NSW BDMs for this name, and I suspect it might have been spelt as it sounded. Perhaps it should have been McCallum? Or something? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Could SKS please check Electoral Rolls for Andrew & Margaret McAlloon/MacAllon - just in case. Many thanks Barbara
G'Day Tom, Have checked the current Australian Electoral Roll, still listed as at the same address, no other LANCASHIRE at this address. It is possible he moved away and not informed the AEC or does not want to make contact. Regards, Allan
Dear Listers A big thank you to Marg, Annette and Allan for their help with my enquiry. When I posted my message I was unsure whether Walter was alive or dead. Having just spoken to him, I am now sure he's alive and well, as is his sister (who I also wanted to track down, but thought she might be in Canada - she's not, she's in Sydney too). So, a happy ending, thanks to the help given by this list. Tom Long London, England
