Good afternoon I am hoping it is allright to put this message up. I am compiling the history of the early settlers of the Mount Druitt Districts and would love to hear from anyone who has a connection to families in the area. At this time I am putting together information on Stieme, Ter-Balk, Bigg, Beggs etc Sincerely Hazel Lethbridge Park
Trish - VMT for your considerable efforts. It seems that the death of one of them (Ralph Herbert Pink) may have occured in South Australia after all. Mavis may not have died until much later. Ancestry.com are always right (or so they tell us) so prepared to believe them at this stage. The info on the son was a bonus (Leonard Ralph Pink)! Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of meeting any of the family and Mavis is not a close relation (3Cousin 1R maternal) so a photo of her would not be of any use. I have no record of her having been called 'Maida' either. My heartfelt thanks to the members of this mail list who so generously assisted with details concerning the fate of my ancestors in NSW. More walls are broken down. In particular to Josephine, Margaret, Susan, Jenelle and Trish. What a great group! Darryl Scarff
Hi Darryl I have sent you this file on a marriage of a William Scarfe and Ann Drain she was 20 years old he was 31. Ann came out on the ship Burrel 2 and it has her as bond, they were married at St John's Parramatta by Rev Samuel Marsden There are records of William been sent to Tasmania? I will look for George. New South Wales, Australia, Registers of Convicts' Applications to Marry, 1826-1851 about William Scarfe Name: William Scarfe Age: 31 Birth Year: Abt 1802 Spouse: Anne Drain Request Status: Granted Date of Permission/Refusal: 24 Dec 1833 Just found on one record that in the 1828 NSW Muster that William & George are working at Wilberforce and that Thomas has left the Colony but I have found the information below which could be your Thomas. On that records Thomas was free by Certificate No 41/2261 New South Wales, Australia, Departing Crew and Passenger Lists, 1816-1825, 1898-1911 about Thomas Scarff Name: Thomas Scarff Departure Date: 17 Jun 1824 Destination Port: New Zealand Ship: Elizabeth Rank: Seaman If you want me to send you this info I can just let me know Hope this helps Josephine Bris Qld -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Darryl Scarff Sent: Saturday, 30 June 2012 12:40 AM To: [email protected] com Subject: [AUS-NSW] FW: George Scarfe,Thomas Scarfe and William Scarfe - Transported to NSW, 1819 From: Darryl Scarff [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, 26 June 2012 10:46 PM To: [email protected] Subject: George Scarfe, Thomas Scarfe and William Scarfe - Transported to NSW, 1819 I do not have access to online BMD records for New South Wales. Could some kind person do a look-up for me .... based on the following information? Surname spelling variants are Scarf, Scarfe, Scarff, Scarffe,Scaff and Scharf. Three brothers, George Scarfe, Thomas Scarfe and William Scarfe were convicted at the Wexford Assizes, in County Wexford,Ireland, in 1817 and were transported to NSW on the convict ship "Mary I", in 1819. Thomas and William were recorded as receiving their Certificates of Freedom by 1824, George by 1827, at the end of their 7 year terms. During his term of servitude, George was sent to work as a farm labourer at Wilberforce and Thomas was sent to Brown's Plains as a fence construction labourer. What became of them? Did they remain in NSW or did they return to Ireland? Did any of them marry or die in NSW? Any assistance in identifying what became of them would be appreciated. Thank you Josephine, Sarah did arrive on the Mary III and I have a copy of the indent. She and her son Thomas were sentenced together at Castle Rushen in 1833, they arrived on separate vessels in 1835. The name "James" is noted on Thomas' indent as one of his tattoos and read "Brother James 1835". Hi Darryl, The NSW BMD indexes are online; you can purchase certificates through the Registry or through a transcription agent (cheaper) - http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi/search?event=births http://www.transcriptions.com.au/ http://www.joymurrin.com.au/ The NSW Colonial Secretary's Papers show that William SCARFE per "Mary" 1819 appeared on a list of prisoners to be sent to Tasmania per "Woodlark" in February 1824 to serve the remainder of his sentence in Hobart, but then his name was crossed out. His is the only name in the Papers. He isn't listed on "Woodlark" in Tasmania, or under any of the various spellings. In the newspapers there is a George SCARF at Wilberforce in 25 July 1840 - and the NSW BMDs have a death for George SCARF in 1865, son of William and Mary, registered Windsor (6382/1865). (There is also a marriage between William SCARF and Eliza JOHNSTON at Windsor in 1863 (maybe his son?) http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article31725332 http://www.hawkesbury.net.au/cemetery/st_matthews/index.html There is also a burial at Windsor for William SCARF in 1877, died 30 October 1877 - the NSW Indexes show he was 78 years old, also the son of William and Mary, so it looks like he is the brother of George who died 1865. Looking for any information (I have been through the electoral rolls for NSW, WA AND VICTORIA) for Philomena LEGGATT, nee ROUEN who married Edward Wilmer LEGGATT, successful escapee from Holzminden via a tunnel in WW1, last entry for Philomena found in Lakemba, New South Wales, 1980. Jenelle.
Hi Peter I have sent you a couple of records, I am not sure that they are your Sarah Lynchey. There are a few records that state that this Sarah Lynchey came out on the ship, Mary, Mary 111 and the Mary 5 all appear to be the same lady who arrived 1835 and her trial 8 Nov 1833 at Castle Rushen Isle of Man. The other file was Thomas Lynchey who I think is the son and there is a mention of a James on the file. I have found some hints as to the names of these two children, a girl possibly Sarah, aged probably 10 years but no older than 12 years (the maximum age the British Government allowed for girls to accompany a convict mother), and a boy possibly James, aged no more than 8 years (the maximum for boys). Ten years of trying on RootsWebb Convict Lists has brought not one response. This is long enough ago for origins to be fuzzy, let alone the "forgetting" that arose from the fear of the convict stain which prevailed until WW II. Any response will be much appreciated. Hello Would there be any researchers on the list who may be researching the DUNDON family please. John DUNDON came to Australia from Co Clare in the early 1850's and in 1857 his mother Deborah DUNDON b about 1803 and two more sons, Philip & Michael also arrived in Victoria where they settled. I have found John and his family and descendants in NSW and would be delighted to hear from anyone who may be interested in the above family especially if they have links also to the LYNCH family. Deborah's maiden name was LYNCH before she married Patrick DUNDON who must have died prior to her emigration to Australia. Thank you Joan
