    3. Thanks Nivard, I guess only an enquiry to the co-ordinator of FreeREG would obtain the correct answer. It might be worth Dianna sending an email to them though to save obtaining the film if the records don't exist for the time she after - although if the marriage is listed in a few places it would not seem to be the case. (Mary Korna - [email protected] ) Cheers Trish > Although freereg states the marriages for 1755 to 1875 are completed, I > cannot find a marriage in 1834 or around that year , closest I found > using 1834 +/- 10 years was 1842 > I wonder if the coverage is accurate OR if taken from the PRs and those > years do not survive (but may in the BTs) or vice versa > Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)

    3. FreeREG has Foxton marriages at St Lawrence from 1755-1875, but Ann LOKER/LOOKER or John STAR/R are not listed. The Foxton Wesleyan Chapel records haven't been transcribed. 3. Hi Trish The only place I could find there marriage was from the Cambridge FHS they have their Foxton BDM CD. It would have been interesting to see the original record though as Ann Loker (Looker) would have only been about 17 and maybe needed parents permission. Trying to connect things up is hard sometimes isn't it, if the guy from Salt Lake finds some extra details on Charles baptism that will be great. Many thanks Dianna

    3. Hi Dianna, There doesn't seem to be a marriage for John STAR/R in Foxton to either Ann WRIGHT/LOKER (on FreeREG). There are quite a few marriages for LOKER and WRIGHT in Foxton, so the family is strongly represented. Maybe they married outside of Foxton? 3. Hi Trish Thanks so much, seems you have already answered one of my questions and yes I did find this information on Family Search. You mentioned the Church of England Parish. I'm just trying to check as many records as I can to get everything as perfect as possible as I have a little descrepancy with Charles Starr's marriage certificate to Maria J. Goody. I have just received this from the Presbyterian archives and Charles has his mum listed as Ann Wright not Loker, perhaps he thought that Wright was her surname, but I would like to check everything out where I can. A gentleman in Salt Lake is going to check Charles' baptism for me next Tuesday, so I'm happy about that. I have not found his parents marriage yet on the LDS site maybe not included there (not sure). They being John Star and Ann (Loker?) married in Cambridge in 1834. Ann would have been about 17 so maybe needed her parents permission to marry. Thanks so much for your reply and help as usual Trish kind regards Dianna

    1. Re: [AUS-NSW] Family Search

    3. Hi Dianna, I have ordered numerous films to check what has been transcribed in other sources, and can well recommend everyone should do so. The films of the PRs can be a mine of information - or a huge disappointment. It depends on the vicar and how he kept his books. Some I've come across will just have the year at the top, then a list of children's names - no dates, no parents, nothing. Then others will give the child's name, birthdate, christening date, parents names with mother's maiden name, fathers occupation, names of siblings etc. You never know what you're going to find until you look. It is well worth checking the records for yourself as its the primary source, and you may find out such things as name and spelling may be different to what has been transcribed in other records, that he was a twin and the other didn't survive, or illegitimacy and the father's name, or that they weren't from the area and just passing through etc. Marriages and burials can also be a great source depending on what is recorded, especially for the period previous to registration in 1837. FreeREG hasn't transcribed baptisms for Foxton at this stage, but marriages and burials have been done. There is St Lawrence and the Wesleyan Chapel listed for Foxton. You may find the Non-Conformist Registers useful if they were Methodists - http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk/ The information on Familysearch.org (if that is where you found the information for Charles Star's baptism on 8 February 1835, parents John and Ann) shows the information was extracted from FHL British Film No 1040470, Batch C13813-2. This is for Baptisms (1696-1876), Marriages and Burials that took place in the Church of England, Parish Church, Foxton-Cambridgeshire. The C (batch no) denotes the information was taken from the parish registers themselves (so should be correct, other than for transcription errors) and are not patron submissions (notoriously incorrect). You would need to order in FHL British Film No 1040471 for his parents marriage if it took place in the same church. https://familysearch.org/eng/library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=titlefilmnotes&columns=*%2C0%2C0&titleno=205251&disp=Parish+registers+for+Foxton++ I noticed you have posted messages on Rootchat, and had a message that his parents were John STAR and Ann LOKER, married in Foxton in 1834. Cheers Trish Nowra NSW > I would like to find out if anyone on the list has ordered microfilms > from the LDS. 3. Hi Trish I suspect the records exist but as you know the LDS have extracted mostly from the BTs so there may be a gap in them I think Diannas best course of action would be to contact Cambs FHS but it certainly would not hurt to enquire with freereg at the same time but they wouldn't have the page image There is no mention of any obvious gaps in the PRs on Foxtons Genuki page http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/CAM/Foxton/index.html Trouble is that even if its found it may not give up much more information than already known :-( Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 19/08/2012 13:43, symonds3 wrote: > Thanks Nivard, I guess only an enquiry to the co-ordinator of FreeREG would > obtain the correct answer. > It might be worth Dianna sending an email to them though to save obtaining > the film if the records don't exist for the time she after - although if the > marriage is listed in a few places it would not seem to be the case. > (Mary Korna - [email protected] ) > Cheers > Trish
