Hello listers, Some time ago I was able to go into bdm.nsw.gov.au and find out the date of death and where buried of relatives. However, when I tried recently, a message came up to say it could not be opened. Is there another site that will do the same task? Many thanks Ian McEachern Western Australia

Hi Chris, just trying to find a little more info on your family......looks like the family moved to Sydney at some stage, was Ellen's middle name Maria ? and did she remarry in Gosford, also did Allan Michael Riley die in Gosford ? just trying to find the movements of the family and marriage of the children, James, Catherine, Allan and Cecilia, is this correct ? Hi Chris The only thing I can find is the St Columba's Estate 1200 hectares of land originally granted to William Lawson and later owned by Sir Henry Parks. It was bought in 1910 and the St Columba's Seminary was built in the Blue Mountains at Springwood. It might be an idea to contact the Blue Mountains Library or Family history centre they might have some information. Going by Google map Flagstone / Cookamidgera is not that far from Parks so The marriage might have only been registered at Parks. What are the names of the Children? Hi Chris, There is an obituary for Archdeacon Michael Campion who died in 1931 in the Sydney Morning Herald ( dated 30 march 1931); according to the obit, he was stationed in Parkes for 40 years. The full article is available thru Trove. Hi Chris, St Mary's Cathedral Archives may be able to help identify the church. http://www.sydneycatholic.org/about/archives.shtml Your comment about being married in the Vestry of the Church is quite interesting - it was a common practice when one party was not Catholic for the marriage to take place "out the back". The nearest church I was able to find was St Columba's at Yeoval, which is about 60km from Parkes; perhaps the priest was a travelling circuit-priest and the marriage was registered at Parkes but took place elsewhere? The comment about marrying in the vestry definitely indicates that one party was not RC At that time - and later - that was the rule, no marrying in the church itself unless both parties were RC -----Original Message----- From: symonds3 Sent: Wednesday, October 03, 2012 11:04 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [AUS-NSW] Catholic Church Registers Hi Chris, St Mary's Cathedral Archives may be able to help identify the church. http://www.sydneycatholic.org/about/archives.shtml Your comment about being married in the Vestry of the Church is quite interesting - it was a common practice when one party was not Catholic for the marriage to take place "out the back".

Have been in touch with both Archives of Bathurst and Wilcannia - Forbes Diocese for the Catholic Church and have been told that there never was a Church named that in Parkes at any time. I think the Priest/Father might have been either travelling though Parkes at the time or standing in for the normal. And neither had any records that could help me. And in NSW there in 40 James Riley's died between 1900 and 1930. James last child was born 1901 and when my Grandfather enlisted for the First World War it has Father whereabouts unknown. So I am wondering if some might know where I could go from here or if they know of the Church named St Columba's or where I could find if M Campion was a Father or Priest and where his normal Parish might have been. Hoping some one can help. Kind Regards Chris
Hi Sue Just thought I'd let you know I checked on Ancestry yesterday a few deaths of John Smiths in the Albury area together with inquests but did not appear to be anyone related to Jimmy's, SMITHS. I think I'll have to put this one away as a lost cause. Hope you're enjoying the lovely weather we're having at the moment. Have to go to Orange tomorrow for a funeral...only a day trip as have to be back on Thursday for a Probus meeting so won't be able to go to the library to search out any of the Stuarts or Weavers. We'll get back there some other time. Cheers Joan Hi Joan, If you dont have any luck on the Albury cemetery records , i'm happy to check them at the Albury library on my way thru in mid october. i checked a family member there last time i was heading south,, and the library's records are pretty comprehensive. How many John Smith's can there be? ;) Cheers Sue
Looking for connection with members of the family of John Alexander FOOTIT and Ada HOBSON, also of Ada HOBSON and George HACKING. I have some details extracted from Ancestry.com. Regards, Val Date, researching the Hobson family
