    1. [AUS-NSW] James WHITE/W. PARKER b.1787 Deptford
    2. symonds3
    3. Hi List, This man isn't mine, but posting the information in case it applies to anyone here. James WHITE was tried 1805 and transported 1806 aboard "Duke of Portland", and was servant to Governor Bligh and later Edward Lord and Mr McCOURT. His Tasmanian Conduct Record shows he was sent out in the name of W. PARKER. He was reconvicted in Middlesex on 13 September 1827 and transported to Tasmania in 1828 aboard "William Miles". This information was found on Tasmania's Founders & Survivors website - http://foundersandsurvivors.org/pubsearch/convict/chain/c31a31450843 Cheers Trish Nowra NSW

    3. Greetings Listers Can anyone tell me anything about the Author Neville (NJ) GALLAGHER of "The Long Travail" published, apparently in Australia, in 1987 please? I have just discovered a Neville James GALLAGHER (1921-1997) in my family and wonder if there is a link of some sort - maybe the same guy? 'My' Neville was born in Sydney in 1921, served in WW2 1942-46, and died (if I've got the right one), possibly in Mittagong, in 1997. I've found that there is a Death Notice for a Neville James GALLAGHER (late of Mittagong) in the Daily Telegraph (Sydney) on 19 Apr 1997, with a death date of 16 Apr. It sounds like 'my' Neville, but I have to wait for a trip to State Library to check the notice. I found his Army details on the WW2 Nominal Roll. Any other information about or contacts to whichever Neville (mine is s/o Adrian Anthony GALLAGHER and Lillian Greta née ROWLEY later CASSERLY) would be great. Many thanks. 3. Hi again Pam, I've seen a few messages on the List Archives from you regarding Adrian GALLAGHER going back a few years, and he appears to be a bit of a mystery-man for you. It might be worth your while to use a transcription agent to order a partial certificate (1 field, eg place of burial) or the full certificate, which may answer a few questions for you - http://www.transcriptions.com.au/pages/marbnsworder.php Cheers Trish Nowra NSW I've been told that Adrian Anthony GALLAGHER who died in 1964 > (registered at Marrickville) is buried in Rookwood Cemetery. 3. Hi Sue An ancestor who came to Oz in 1839 later included in the name a son the name of his older brother in law. I have concluded that his brother in law had been a mentor after his father died when he was a teenager. The brother in law was a tanner in England and a similar business was established in Maitland by our ancestor George Turner. The family were yeoman farmers prior to this. One other possibility was that his sister and brother in law were childless and there was hope that the child would be remembered in the will of the relatively well off relative. Regards Glynis > Hi list, > > I have a g g uncle, Frederick Charles White Fitzpatrick ( b. 1820, > Winchester, England) and i am trying to figure out the possible reasons > for the inclusion of White as a middle name . 3. Hi Sue, You've given the paternal side of the family, but have you looked at the maternal names? The surname is the most obvious choice but you may need to go back further generations than just his mother if its a family name handed down (eg, I have Gervase as a Christian name on my tree that went back to the 1700s to find when the surname first came onto the tree). I also have names that relate to the names of vessels the family arrived on into Australia, towns and villages they lived and so on, so it may not be a surname at all but has some obscure meaning only known to them. Good luck, Trish Nowra NSW > I have a g g uncle, Frederick Charles White Fitzpatrick ( b. 1820, > Winchester, England) and i am trying to figure out the possible reasons > for the inclusion of White as a middle name . 3. Hi list, I have a g g uncle, Frederick Charles White Fitzpatrick ( b. 1820, Winchester, England) and i am trying to figure out the possible reasons for the inclusion of White as a middle name . I assumed it was a surname linked to the father or mother's family. Frederick's father was irish, his mother english. The 'Charles' is his paternal grandfathers name, and my thought is that the White may be connected to the mother's family. I do have Frederick's neice living as a governess in 1881 with a White family in Brighton, Sussex - this may be mere coincidence but... Neither the paternal grandmother ( maiden name Purcell), the maternal grandfather (surname Woolls) or grandmother ( maiden name Bryan), fits the bill. Does anyone have any thoughts on other possibilities? Cheers Sue

If so - http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi/search?event=births There are quite a few inscriptions and photos of headstones (mainly country areas) at Australian Cemetery Index - http://austcemindex.com/inscriptions.php and you may find death/funeral notices in the newspapers - http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home If you let the List know who you are looking for, there may be CDs etc that can be checked also.
