Good Morning, John McGee excellent book 'Two and a half Convicts' contains considerable information about 'Walter Rotton, gentleman, of Newington, London, later farmer, publican and auctioneer of Patrick's Plains, West Maitland and Singleton'. It also has a picture of John Rotton Terry www.terrycallaghan.net >>>>>>>Dear Listers, Would be interested in hearing from more recent descendants of Henry Rotton, (son of Gilbert Rotton, UK), of "Blackdown", near Bathurst, NSW, and Walter and John Rotton, brothers, West Maitland and Singleton areas please, including photos of newer generations from originals in New South Wales.>>>>>
Hello Josephine There was another Davis-Eade marriage between George William Davis and Annie Eade. Regards Alan
Google maps will only find what is there now: you are assuming that street names and numbering never change. The library at North Sydney Council has a wonderful online resource, the North Sydney Heritage Centre: http://www.northsydney.nsw.gov.au/www/html/2102-heritage-databases.asp?intSiteID=1 One their databases is called "Naming North Sydney" described as "The history behind the naming of North Sydney's streets, parks and localities." http://www.photosau.com/StantonStreets You'll see that Blues Point is not a suburb but a locality within the suburb of McMahons Point. The entry for Victoria Street, McMahons Point says: "Previously known as SUSANNAH STREET, the street was apparently renamed to commemorate a royal event, probably the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria, who reigned from 1837-1901. The name was formerly used for MUNRO STREET, with which it connected by a level crossing before the overhead bridge was built." So you should be looking for an address today in Munro Street McMahons Point NOT Victoria Street Blues Point. The 1915 Sands Directory lists numbers 65 to 9 Victoria Street as running from Dumbarton Street - today Dumbarton Street intersects Munro Street. Listed at 21 Victoria Street in 1915 is Herbert S Stephen. Dear Listers, Would be interested in hearing from more recent descendants of Henry Rotton, (son of Gilbert Rotton, UK), of "Blackdown", near Bathurst, NSW, and Walter and John Rotton, brothers, West Maitland and Singleton areas please, including photos of newer generations from originals in New South Wales. Have a book in mind to be named "Wonderfully Rotton", which includes notes on the Rotton family by Robert Joseph Duffield Rotton and Marion Runting (Pechey). Have noted quite a few "trees" on internet but am not building a tree but attempting to record something of their lives, which have contributed greatly to the foundation of our great country. Have listed some of the descendant surnames - Rotton (King's Norton UK and other branches), Pechey (Soham, Cambridgeshire), Horton, Hunt, Maclurken, Cram, Hunter, Litchfield, Currie, Curry, Keightley, Shewen (Dr. Alfred, Sydney), Scholes, Mackinnon, Wilkinson, Jacob, Solomons, Wansbrough, Smith, Hayley, Johnson, Johnstone, Singleton. This is just a small sample of surnames. (Do have information on Fanny Craddock) and Dr. Edith Phipson, and serving Rotton family in India, and older information on the Australian Rotton families and Percy family in USA. Contributions of copies of BDM certs. and family stories, would be most appreciated and of course, will be acknowledged in the book. Thanking you Ann Daniel (husband Rotton/Pechey descendant)
Hi Josephine Well the Eades weren't in Tasmania, but when John and Susan Davis left Tasmania and settled in NSW, one of their granddaughters married into the Eade family. Regards Alan
Hello Josephine Try McMahons Point, (rather than Blues Point, not Blue Point). It would appear 17-21 Victoria Street is a park/children's playground. Regards Alan
Hi Alan Thank you for the info I will Google that. Also were any of your Eade from Tasmania connected to a Davis Family Cheers Josephine. Hi to all I would like to find out where 21 Victoria Street, Blue Point N. Sydney would be located it was about 1914. It was the address given on an Army enlistment form. I have Google but no luck. Cheers Josephine very wet Brisbane.
Listers, Two ladies of this name were born in NSW in 1851 1. Sarah A born to parents of George HOWELL who married Catherine CARROLL 1841 Lower Hawksesbury 2. Sarah A born to parents of Walter HOWELL who married Mary CROSS 1831 Richmond Sarah No. 1 married Isaac BEWLEY 1871 Scone and died 1936 Murrurundi. Several trees on Ancestry have this Sarah wrongly attributed ( I think) to parents of Walter and Mary and have Sarah dying in either Canley Vale Sydney in 1944 or Vale USA in 1944 Sarah No. 2 probably married Donald McRae 1869 Young, NSW. Sarah's family were in the Young, Grenfell area by 1869. One child at least possibly born to this marriage Alexander born 1870 Sydney and may have died 1877 registered East Maitland Are there any McCRAE, HOWELL, CROSS, BRYANT researchers out there who can shed any light on Sarah Ann HOWELL born 1851 Meadow Flat and probably died at Young in 1914. There is no matching headstone at Young but a death may have been registered there and the burial in a neighbouring settlement. No probate or Trove entries that I could find. David Central Coast NSW
