    3.   Thanks Lyn, I certainly thought it had always been there in the online search returns .... but understanding that the 'district' given is where registered, not necessarily where born or died. You're absolutely right about 'privacy' nonsense -- IF that is why they do it (for as you say these things are announced in newspapers). Cheers,   John ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lyn" aus-nsw@rootsweb.com To: Cc: Sent:Wed, 13 Aug 2014 00:29:57 +1000 Subject:Re: [AUS-NSW] nsw bdm app Somebody recently said how wonderful the "district" information (?now) is .. but wasn't the registry district always part of the search results display? Yes John it has always be there. Nice if you live in NZ births to 1961 - marriages to 1932 and Deaths to present day. When all is said and done about privacy etc 'we' put ourselves out there with our birth, deaths and marriage announcements in the papers and also what is inscribed on headstones. cheers Lyn ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to AUS-NSW-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3.   Hello Kate, I asked them have they been having staff cuts - but there was no answer. More certainly thought they do say they are having a "major system upgrade" - and also that they 'improved' the BDM search (but I found the old one easy and the new one cryptic by comparison). Somebody recently asked what were the data cut-off limits (which used to be stated visibly on the search interface. I answered that to the extent that I thought they'd be exactly what they were prior to the 'upgrade'. I can no say that they are: births for up to 100 years ago; deaths for up to 30 years ago, and marriages for up to 50 years ago. Why those cut-offs persist I have no idea (as I for one wish to find out events more recently than that). Re possibly recent disappearance from their webpages you wrote "I also can't find information about the app on the website anymore" --- not long ago when they'd just released the new 'improved' interface they website had an apology that it might make your system go slow or crash. I cannot remember any other recently released 'improvements' by anybody else at all that advertised it might crash your system --- I don't recall if it was crashing the browser or the whole computer for some people.   But in any case that bit seems to have now disappeared from the BDM website. What it now says is simply "We apologise for any inconvenience while some issues are currently being investigated". Somebody recently said how wonderful the "district" information (?now) is .. but wasnt't the registry district always part of the search results display? But in any case, right at this moment they are saying:  "District information is not displaying in the online search, and some performance issues have been reported". But whatever we get we have to be thankful for it (as things could always get worse - and no doubt in some other countries they probably are worse). My personal guess on why all this has happened may be obtained anytime ~ totally free of charge *S* ~ by contacting me off-list.   Cheers,   John  .     UPDATE ON IMPROVEMENTS We apologise for any inconvenience while some issues are currently being investigated.   ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kathleen" aus-nsw@rootsweb.com To: Cc: Sent:Tue, 12 Aug 2014 19:30:42 +1000 Subject:[AUS-NSW] nsw bdm app Just spent a frustrating day trying to download the nsw bdm app to my tablet. Whether she was the May you found as passenger in 1914 is a difficult one, as you have no doubt discovered. Have you thought of looking for a marriage for her in England after 1911? 3. Hi Carole Unless you know the exact date of the event, you will need to change the default of "date of event range" to YES. It will then automatically bring up the appropriate boxes. You probably just need to enter the years between which you want to search. In births, you can't search past today's date (11 August) in 1914 as the 100 year restriction still applies. So if you are entering December 2014 perhaps this is why you are having trouble.
