Hi Beryl Just put in an asterisk *. This is the same as the old wildcard search. I think it's fantastic that we can now work out full dates. Although I've found a problem. It's no longer possible to search for a marriage for an ancestor unless you know their spouses name! As family historians that's one information we search for. If anyone have found a trick on how to over come this I would be interested in knowing? Hope you all have a nice day. Hi Beryl, I also missed the ability to search weddings on a single name, but found that this functionality is available in the iPad/iPhone interface. I am trying to establish the original grantee(s) to Cogenburgh Estate which was situated near Goulburn and Bungonia on the Southern Highlands of NSW. >From items that I have found on Trove there were people living on or giving their address as the "Cogenburgh Estate" in the 1830's. This property became known as Kooringaroo sometime in the first decade of the 20th century After WW II the property, then approximately 5ooo acres, was split into 3 and became part of the Soldier Settler Scheme. The portion which had the original farmhouse, shearing shed and other farm buildings continued to be called Kooringaroo. My parents and a brother owned Kooringaroo during the 1960's and 70's. The current Kooringaroo is located at 859 Lumley Rd., Bungonia Hts. The indexes at the NSW State Archives are based on the name of the applicant for grant and it seems that without this information I will need to visit Sydney and browse the records although at this time I have no Real Property Description to go on. This presupposes that the name "Cogenburgh" would not have existed prior to the acquisition, it certainly does not come up on a "Key Name Search". Does any Lister have any advice on how I can achieve my purpose? Cheers Peter Melbourne
Thanks Rosemary, That's very clear cut then. And as I wrote .. I think they are dills to say that. Terrible stuff !! Hi John, It was said to my face by a senior staff member!!! Rosemary Chalmers
Hello, I previously said that the recent NSW change of search interface was the worst thing I knew of (in a long time). However I'd have to now change that from what I've learned today as the worst/stupidest thing in government in recent times. I'd now say that having ZERO of the BDM data uploaded/free/findable as with NT's having zero and saying "it could lead to identity thief" now takes the cake ~~ now takes top position. Are you absolutely, absolutely, absolutely certain Rosemary, that the ?dills there say that? Oh my goodness .... !!! What's next? If anybody is interested in deaths and what happens after that I also have a webpage on cemetery, esp. old cemeteries and cemeteries maintenance .. that sort of thing. It is at: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5737284/cemeteries-anglican.htm [1] I am about to put another entry into that webpage: = The Concord-Longbottom Cemetery, a general cemetery for the Parish of Concord .. but later on the aldermen of Concord Council complained it was untidy and an eyesore and had it dug up. The Town Clerk wrote a letter to the Government seeking permission: "I am directed by my cattle to draw attention to the state of the old cemetery at the corner of Patterson and Flavelle Streets, Concord". He wrote that the graves were being "constantly trampled by cattle" and he asked "the bodies be exhumed and removed to another cemetery". They were taken to Rookwood, which is not all that far away and is one of the biggest cemeteries. The Trustee of the place was the Rev. P. Byrne of Homebush. The Town Clerk wrote to BDM (the "Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages to get records" but was "informed that they had no records". That was in November. In December in came the reply to the Town Clerk from Trustee Rev. Father P. Byrne. He too replied he did not know the number of Catholic graves there ... nor who owned them. There is nothing to suggest he had any records at all, even though the designated Trustee (or only trustee findable?) of the place. Further letters were sent to the Rev. Fr. Batlow at nearby St. Mary's Catholic Church on Parramatta Road, Concord. The St. Mary's Church apparently knew nothing either but years later they knocked down some buildings there for a new old aged Nursing Home and when the ground surface was planed off with a bulldozer it showed rectangles of different coloured earth there. These were graves. However all record of any cemetery at that church has been lost and the graves forgotten about. The supposedly transferred the Concord cemetery remains to Rookwood's "southwest corner of the Cemetery in Catholilic Mortuary 2/3, adjacent to the 'Petersham" group of graves" (the last mentioned transferred to Rookwood from the clearance of Petersham Cemetery to build the Lewisham Hospital. Cheers, John .. in sometimes sunny Sydney ----- Original Message ----- From: rosechal@iinet.net.au aus-nsw@rootsweb.com To:"Lyn' [chedoona@beagle.com.au]" Cc: Sent:Wed, 13 Aug 2014 06:53:00 +0930 Subject:Re: [AUS-NSW] nsw bdm app Here in the Northern Territory nothing is available online. Somebody recently said how wonderful the "district" information (?now) is .. but wasn't the registry district always part of the search results display? Yes John it has always be there. Nice if you live in NZ births to 1961 - marriages to 1932 and Deaths to present day. When all is said and done about privacy etc 'we' put ourselves out there with our birth, deaths and marriage announcements in the papers and also what is inscribed on headstones. cheers Lyn
