According to John Patrick OWENS' Inquest of Death: 282/01 of 18 June 1901 at Manfred Arms Hotel, Cloncurry. `Was cooking at a boring camp on Canobie Station & becoming ill, decided to go to Richmond Hospital. Travelled in from Canobie to the Manfred Arms Hotel with a drover named John Davidson, arriving on Sunday 16 June . He was to have proceeded to Richmond by coach on Tuesday 18, but death put an end to his earthly troubles on the afternoon of Monday 17 June. Davidson says that he thinks he died from Berri Berri or Scurvy, whilst publican Arthur Nicholls diagnoses the cause as dropsy or liver complaint. Davidson adds that he had no money that he was aware of. Was a married man. No post-mortum . Police not present at inquest.' Believed to have an uncle in Normanton.
