Hi Mary MELIA was born 22May1820 in Westmeath, Ireland. 1st married Thomas McGUIRE (1823 Ireland - 1853 Woodford, Qld). They arrived in Moreton Bay in c1842. (Thomas was a "red coat". In 1844 he purchased his discharge. In 1848 he was sworn in to act as a Mounted Police Constable of the Moreton Bay Police, for the town of Brisbane. He could read, write and ride) They had two daughters: Mary Ann McGUIRE: 1842-1884 Esk ***1st m 1861 Boondooma Q : John MOORE 1830-1876 Esk 2nd m 1879 Ipswich : James SAUNDERS 1845-1884 Esk (Left 5 children to be raised by her mother in Esk) Bedelia McGUIRE (Delia): 1847-1929 Walkerston 1st m 1863 Brisbane : Thomas THOMPSON 1838-1872 2nd m 1878 Nerang : Malcolm McFARLANE 1827-1901 (4 of 10 children known to have married) After the death of her 1st husband, Mary MELIA-McGUIRE married 1855 Robert WORLEY (1814-1882) timber-getter from the Nerang area. They had one son: Richard Thomas WORLEY: 1856-1924 Murwillumbah m 1882 Brisbane : Rosa Ann MARTIN 1859-1932 Murwillumbah *** my ancestors. A lot of this has been researched by Greta Sturton, descendant of Delia. Unfortunately, Greta died early last year, 1999, and I am continuing the research that I started in the early 1980's.
