A while ago I mentioned a website for Bow Creek, this has a new, and much easier to remember URL at : http://www.bowcreek.co.uk They have also added some navigable Family Trees of a few actual Bow Creek Families. The Parish Chest have added the following retailers to their site: Family Deeds, Chapel Books, Family History CD, CJ Genealogical Collections, Traces Publications, Yesterdays Names, Linton & District Local History Society. http://www.parishchest.com NEW RELEASES FROM ARCHIVE CD BOOKS Black's Guide to Surrey 1886 An excellent 19th century guide book which provides historical and geographical information about the following places in Surrey; Wimbledon, Kew, Richmond, Kingston-On-Thames, Weybridge, Chertsey, Egham, Bagshot, Croydon, Caterham, Reigate, Dorking, Betchworh Park, Leatherhead, Epsom, Esher, Woking Junction, Guildford, Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere. Read about these places as your ancestors would have viewed them. Archive CD Books homepage - http://www.archivecdbooks.com WEBPAGE REVIEWS http://www.virtualsask.com/barry/ This to me was an absolutely fascinating website. It contains the diary of a journey from Barry in South Wales to Buenos Aires in 1913. Each day activities are mentioned, from descriptions of Barry docks, to Buenos Aires, with a stop in Las Palmas. Conditions are described, as are many of the crew, and there are some great photographs and postcards as well. The site is truly very interesting and I hugely enjoyed reading it. It is very simple to navigate and easy and quick to load. A lovely little insight into the early twentieth century http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cotyroneireland/index1.html This is the website of an online community researching interests in Co Tyrone in Ireland. A simple website, but one with fantastic resources on it. Amongst the resources I found were transcripts of 1766 and 1834 censuses, Births and Roman Catholic births in Coagh, church photographs, and in a section heading church records a large array of various records pertaining to churchs all over the county, including baptism records, financial records and all sorts of other records. Nice simple transcripts are provided, and this website is a bonus for all researching ancestors in County Tyrone. Simple, easy and effective design. http://www.search.digitalhandsworth.org.uk/engine/custom/gallery.asp?lstExhi bitionType=3 Part of the Digital Handsworth project this is a gallery of images from the 1870s and 1880s baptisms in St Marys Church. The site is a little complicated, and takes a bit of time to get used to, but once you do you are presented with scanned images from the baptism register itself. The images however are not the easiest to read, and you will need exceptionally good eyesight to study them. However they are there, and it will no doubt prove useful to some people. Have a good look around the rest of the website for a collection of images from Handsworth past and present. But as with many collections of images, be prepared for a slow load. READERS QUERIES I am trying to find out what happened to the family of; Frank Marmaduke Woodhams born 20 April 1865 in Tonbridge Kent, died on 27 November 1905 whilst homewood bound on board RMS Otrato off the coast of Barbados. He is buried in the military cemetery there. Frank was a Sgt. Major in the Royal Engineers. In 1889 he married Eva Maude Liddle in York. They had five children Beatrix b. 14-9-1891 and Frank b. 14-9-1893 both born in York. Jack b.1894, Dorothy b.1895 and, Harold b. 1900.all born Cape Colony South Africa. Jack was deaf. In 1901 were all living 4 Esplanade Stirling Scotland. When Frank died in1905 the family were still living in Scotland. (info from RE Magazine) What happened to them, none of my family know. Frank was my great uncle. There must be cousins somewhere out there, we would love to know what happened to them. John Garrett j.w.g.g3you@btinternet.com MALONE...JAMES & ANN. Can anyone throw light on these ancestors please? All I know is that they married in September 1809 at St Mary's Parish Church RADCLIFFE, LANCASHIRE. James was a WHEELWRIGHT by trade. The Parish Register doesn't help with where they were born, who their parents were or where they lived...and I have been unable to find any trace of their deaths (a gravestone, for instance, might help pinpoint their ages apart from any other information). Two sons have been traced...JOHN MALONE (cobbler by trade...lived & died in TOTTINGTON) & THOMAS MALONE (died HOLCOMBE.) Both these sons married & had children. Personally, I imagine that JAMES & ANN MALONE would not have moved far from their 2 sons & their families - so my feeling is that they lived & died within a few miles of RADCLIFFE, LANCS. But their deaths have not yet been found in the Parish Registers in the area. Because the surname MALONE is Irish I also suspect that James was the first in my family to come to Lancashire from Ireland Anyone who has a theory or who has come across them in memorial inscriprions or parish registers (probably within a 5 mile radius of RADCLIFFE)...please do contact me & I would be very grateful. Thank you. Tony Malone - email tony@malone6.fsnet.co.uk . We are looking for the marriage of Albert Sawyer to a Florence Rose. It would have been in the very late 1890's or early 1900's. We think Albert was born in Surrey. He was a Packing case maker and they resided at 16 Hargreave Square Bermondsey in 1911. Also the birth of Ellen Mayatt (birthname but known as Nellie) in Bromley area around 1885 she married William Francis Hill June Q of 1915 and had two children William Albert Edgar Hill and Eileen Elsie Maude Hill. We have found a Nellie Mayatt in the 1901 census from St Mary Cray but cannot find a birth in the name of Ellen. Mayatt appears to be an unusual name and can find very few entries for the name. Any help with these inquiries would be greatly appreciated.
