    3. In case you haven't already heard the good news... the Qld Minister for Health has advised: "Qld Health has decided to apply a 'restricted access period' of 100 years to the Dunwich/Eventide records... all [Dunwich] records on which the date of last action is pre-1900 will immediately be returned to open access at the State Archives, with later records progressively becoming 'open access' records with the passage of time. Access to records which remain 'restricted access' records may still be sought under the Freedom of Information Act 1992, or under the mechanism in the Libraries and Archives Act 1988, whereby an agency can approve access to restricted records held at the State Archives, for the purposes of legitimate research of the types to which you referred in your letter (i.e., social history or medical, academic or legal research)." I am not quite sure what 'immediately' means. Before trekking out to Qld State Archives to use the records, you may want to phone to check that they are actually back in the Search Room. Putting thousands of index cards back into drawers is not something that can be done in five minutes!
