ENG NTH The Heldom village web site is a gem. http://www.helmdon.com/TOC.htm IRL http://www.otherdays.com/presentation/newsletter/ http://www.otherdays.com/ Dear Friend, If 'in vacant and in pensive mood' your mind turns to the Ireland of your ancestors, it is likely that you conjure up a country composed of tenant farmers working on the land where they grew their acre of potatoes with the occasional visit to the local bog to cut turf for the fire! While there is a strong element of truth in this image, the reality of course was much more complex. Being an island, it was inevitable that Ireland should develop a strong coastal community whose lives revolved around the sea and whose occupations were more related to shipping, fishing, transport and trade than to the land. In this week's newsletter we introduce 'Shipping and Coastal Directory 1823-1910 (Southeast)' which has just been published on Otherdays.com. Our Book Review section introduces the most significant work on the Tithe Books (Longford) yet to reach genealogical shelves and which is likely to remain the standard work on that most valuable of Irish sources for many years to come. Talk to you soon! Francis. Scottish Tomb Finder will assist you to find the graves of your ancestors and provide you with a range of services such as photographs of your ancestral graves and information reports on the local community. SWEDEN http://home.netcom.com/~v31ry/ Swedish Genealogical Dictionary The Fourth Edition of the Swedish Genealogical Dictionary compiled by Phyllis J. Pladsen, Joseph C. Huber, and Eric B. Pladsen. This 150 page soft cover book lists over 5,500 words found in Swedish documents of genealogical importance. It also includes a section of handwriting samples and a reference section. Important aid for non-fluent Swedish speakers using genealogical documents in Swedish in research! The old Swedish that is found in the old church records is different from modern Swedish, so this resource is more helpful than a modern Swedish-English dictionary.
