Dear Deborah, My ancestors were also from Ballarat area, specifically, Buninyong. They ended up in Herberton 1880s and then Chilligoe around 1900. Stephen LEWIS and his son John Walter LEWIS and his wife, Grace. Stephen was involved with gold mining in Ballarat area and there are mines in Chilligoe. Maybe this is the answer.
