The FHANQ library has recently received a donation from the Gympie FHS of an old book about Townsville, and as there is no publication date in the book, I am appealing for help. The book is called "Townsville Queen City of North Queensland, Panoramic Views, Scenic Splendour, Beautiful Magnetic" Published by T. Willmett & Sons (Pty) Ltd. It appears to be early WW2. The population was 30,000 and Sir Leslie Orme wilson was Governor of Qld. AHW Cunningham was president of the T'lle Pastoral Agricultural & Industrial Association, with TL Heatley as Secretary. Any help with pinpointing the publication date is appreciated Thanks Carolyn Campbell --------------------------------- Find local movie times and trailers on Yahoo! Movies.
Hello Carolyn, Can't help with the date of the book, but Colonel Sir Leslie Orme Wilson was Governor from 13.6.1932 to 24.4.1946. Hi Carolyn. I checked the National Library catalogue and they have the publication date as 193- as does the Qld State Library. James Cook Uni. has the date as 1938?. This means that they have no idea either. However, Colonel Sir Leslie Orme Wilson was governor of Qld between 12 June 1932 & 23 April 1946, so that would suggest that the pub. date could have been later and early WWII is a possibility. The Townsville library has a publication with a similar title, but different subtitle which was published in 1933, possibly an earlier edition. I'd say you could use a best guess and make it ca1940 and be quite close, however I will be working in the Local History section of the Tve Knowledge Ctre either on Friday or Monday, so will try to find dates for AHW Cunningham and TL Heatley then and let you know. Please let me know if you have a definitive answer earlier. cheers, Jenny Cornelder ----- Original Message ----- From: "carolyn campbell" <carolyn244c@yahoo.com.au> To: <AUS-NQ-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 12, 2004 4:07 PM Subject: Townsville Queen City of North Queensland The FHANQ library has recently received a donation from the Gympie FHS of an old book about Townsville, and as there is no publication date in the book, I am appealing for help.
