Looking for McPHERSON's. George SMITH aged 20, left Glasgow in Scotland and arrived in Brisbane aboard the "Kincardineshire" in 1883. He worked his way up the coast, mainly in the Maryborough/Gympie area, and in 1893 in Bowen he married Elizabeth GUILD, but under the name of George Smith McPHERSON, his paternal grandmother's name. He may have arrived in Aussie with his brother. Any descendants out there? I would like to exchange info, especially if you know anything about the change of name. He could have been escaping a wife and children or an angry husband?? or maybe he was wanted for a crime?? I have checked with police and he did not commit a major crime. Happy hunting, Jeanie.
