The ancestors of us all were Samuel CALDWELL and his wife Isabella nee SPENCE who were 1st Governor and Matron of The ARMIDALE NSW Gaol from 1863 for 25 years.Before this Sam came to Australia as a soldier with his brother George in charge of convicts on the Ship LORD MELVILLE arriving Sydney October 1830. On the 21-10-1830 they both volunteered and joined the Mounted Police Waiting in anticipation Peg Whiteman of Mooloolaba QLD.
