(2) From Peter Sinclair: "A group from Brigham Young University, Utah, is visiting Auckland New Zealand on May 16. Their purpose is to obtain family tree information and a matching donation of blood from which to extract DNA. This matching DNA and Family information goes into their potion of the Universities "Genome" project. Further inquires from them have have included their availability to visit other centres in New Zealand IF 200 SAMPLES can be obtained at any one site. At the moment we would like to hear from any person(s) wishing to be a part of this project. Interested persons can leave their contact name and phone number with Peter Sinclair on Hamilton (07) 856 4396. By the 10th of April we will decide on a cut off as to having the numbers to qualify for a site visit. If we cannot get 200 there simply wilbe no visit. If this proceeds a location such as CCNZ auditorium will be allocated and a presentation will be made following which those wishing to be involved will commence. Family information will be basic as to Names, dates and location of your 4 generations." (3) The Australasia Births, Deaths and Marriages Exchange at http://www.geocities.com/hutton_l/exchange/ has just been updated! If you have or are looking for birth, death or marriage registrations registered in Australia, New Zealand or Papua New Guinea, then you'll want to take a look at this site. Search for and submit details contained on birth, baptism, death, burial and marriage registrations; over 500 people have submitted nearly 18,000 records to date. Take a look around the site and be sure to register surnames you're researching with the Australasia Genealogical Research Connection at http://www.geocities.com/hutton_l/connect/ (4) On Saturday, 10th March a new 1911 CENSUS REGISTER was launched that offers an opportunity to register your research needs if you want to inspect the 1911 census returns for England & Wales. Details are on our site at http://members.aol.com/census75/news.htm "NEW 1911 CENSUS REGISTER If you're an historian who wants to inspect and copy the 1911 census records for England & Wales, please click here [email protected] and register your full name and adddress and evening phone number and tell me you want to inspect the 1911 census records. No other information is required. The survey is necessary to enable historians to refute any suggestions from Government officials or others that there is little or no demand for early access to the 1911 census. Please note that the closing date for registrations will be Saturday, 28th April 2001. If you can spare an extra minute, I would be glad to know how you first heard about this Internet site. Denis McCready [Editor]. A VERY BRIEF SUMMARY [Especially for SN [Australia]] As you will be able to see from these pages, Lord Chancellor's Instrument No12 of 1966 does not explicitly list the 1911 Census records amongst those to be closed for 100 years. And the Public Records Act 1958 seems to place a legal duty on the Keeper of Public Records [The Head of the Public Record Office] to arrange that reasonable facilities are available to YOU for inspecting and copying the 1911 Census records. It would seem that the 1911 census should have been available for YOU to inspect and copy from 1966 onwards - for more than 30 years. A Select Committee of MPs may be willing to conduct an independent investigation. " (5) Mudcreek have just released a new special version of GENViewer that can be used on CDROMs. These are CDROMs that are created for family members or by genealogy societies that contain GEDCOM or PAF files on them. This version of GENViewer can be added to these CDROMs so users can view these files. GENViewer runs from the CDROM and is not installed on the user's computer. Also, no files are left on the user's computer either. This is a FREE version of GENViewer and no licence is required.
