ENG KEN http://www.bygonebodiam.co.uk/subjects.htm Website relating to the more modern, and mainly social and local history of Bodiam in Kent. It takes some time to get used to the layout and format, and indeed to work your way around but this site is worth a little trouble navigating. It will be of particular interest if your ancestors came from Kent, or were involved in Hop Picking. There is a large collection of photos and articles detailing peoples experiences. The site is mainly concerned with the 20th century but is a very valuable contribution to recording peoples experiences and photographs. A nice site, a little design and organisation would not go amiss but good anyway. RESEARCH The New York Public Library (NYPL) has put digitized images of nine Jewish yizkor books on its Web site at http://www.nypl.org/research/chss/jws/yizkorbooks_intro.cfm, and announced plans to do the same with the rest of the 700-plus books in its collection. Jews have written yizkor (or memory) books throughout history to memorialize the dead. After the Holocaust, European Jews revived the practice. Their books tell the histories--often stretching back decades or centuries--of decimated communities. Many of the books contain photos and necrologies, or lists of Holocaust victims. NYPL's initial posting of yizkor books covers 12 towns.
