    3. See http://www.judywebster.gil.com.au/colsec.html for a list of several hundred Mental Asylum and Benevolent Asylum patients mentioned in Queensland Colonial Secretary's in-letters during the 1860s and 1870s. The index was compiled from selected references that we came across by chance. Items indexed: * Lists of male and female patients confined in the Lunatic Asylum at 31 May 1867 (the original source gives age, native country, when admitted) * Lists of male and female patients discharged from the Lunatic Asylum, 1865 to May 1867 (includes some admissions as early as 1861; original source gives age, native country, dates admitted and discharged) * Lists of male and female patients who died in the Lunatic Asylum, 1865 to May 1867 (but actually includes some dated 1864; original source gives age, native country, when admitted, cause of death and remarks. Some of these names are not in the QLD Registrar-General's indexes to deaths!) * Lists of male and female patients discharged and readmitted between 1865 and May 1867 (original source gives age, when admitted, when discharged and in what state, when readmitted, supposed cause of relapse, and how disposed of since) * Various references from other letters (earliest 1867, latest 1871) concerning inmates of the Lunatic Asylum and Dunwich Benevolent Asylum, and a few similar items of interest. The list of names, and information on how to obtain copies of relevant items, is on http://www.judywebster.gil.com.au/colsec.html. ************************************************************** Judy Webster, PO Box 5043, Algester, QLD 4115, Australia.
