ENG http://www.ewgreen.org.uk/index.htmlI A web site which contains copies of some fascinating pen sketches and a few paintings of old houses, buildings, streets etc in Warwickshire and some other counties. They are by William Albert Green and most were done in the 1940s. It is well worth a look as it reveals details which in many cases are now gone forever. They can also be purchased at reasonable cost, if required. NZ www.homepages.paradise.net.nz/barbgreg/ An Award Winning New Zealand Genealogy Research Site SCT I am pleased to announce that the Scottish part of FreeREG is about to start. This is a sister (or brother!) project to FreeBMD and FreeCEN. FreeREG aims to produce quality transcriptions of the Old Parish Registers so that they can be searched, free, on the Internet. I am the Scotland co-ordinator and I am looking for people who would like to co-ordinate the distribution of film within a particular county and give support to volunteer transcribers. Only Angus and Fife have co-ordinators at present. We have the requisite permissions from GROS for this, and the Genealogical Society of Utah is kindly lending us the film. You will find the FreeREG site at www.freereg.rootsweb.com if you wish to read more about the project in general. If you would like to be a county co-ordinator, please get in touch with me at annef1@tiscali.co.uk . If you would simply like to transcribe, then please also get in touch and I will hold your names until we have a co-ordinator for the county of your choice. SCT ROX Liddesdale is the valley in which Newcastleton sits, and therefore the parish of Castleton covers this valley. The Scottish Genealogy Society have published a booklet of Monumental Inscriptions for the Liddesdale area. It contains inscriptions dated from 1666 to 1995 for the four cemeteries: Castleton churchyard, Ettleton Cemetery, Saughtree Cemetery and St. Mary's Chapel, Hermitage. Unfortunately, it doesn't go as far as Hawick as that is outside the valley.
